Lucas sold the mansion.
Lily did not want to live there again.
Before the sale, she asked to visit Claire’s writing desk.
Lucas, Margaret, and Dr. Reed went with her.
The bathroom door had been removed.
The hidden room behind the bookcase had been opened on both sides.
Sunlight entered through a new window.
Lily stood outside the space.
“What should happen to it?” Lucas asked.
“Don’t make it a memorial.”
“What do you want?”
“Make it a reading room.”
The mansion was purchased by an independent children’s advocacy foundation.
The ballroom became a training center for teachers, doctors, domestic employees, and security staff.
The hidden room became a library.
No door.
No lock.
Claire’s desk stood near the window.
A copy of her letter was displayed beneath glass.
Not the pages about money.
The final sentence.
The person who asks you to erase me from Lily’s life does not love either of you.
Lucas moved into a smaller house near Margaret.
Lily chose her bedroom.
She chose the lock.
She decided who received keys.
Lucas returned to Bennett Medical only after an independent review.
He did not return as chief executive.
The board appointed a permanent leader.
Lucas became nonexecutive chair.
Lily’s shares remained under three independent protectors.
Lucas could advise.
He could not decide alone.
