The jury deliberated for twenty-three hours.
Lucas waited at Margaret’s house.
Lily built a cardboard model of the mansion.
She left the bathroom door open.
She removed the hidden room entirely.
Detective Collins called shortly after four.
Vanessa was guilty of unlawful imprisonment.
Guilty of child endangerment.
Guilty of conspiracy.
Guilty of attempted kidnapping.
Guilty of fraud.
Guilty of evidence tampering.
Adrian was convicted in a separate federal trial of racketeering, fraud, unlawful medical interference, trust exploitation, and conspiracy connected to Claire’s medication.
Dr. Ward received thirteen years and lost his license.
Patrick received eight years under his cooperation agreement.
Prescott House was permanently closed.
Families regained control of trusts.
Children received independent evaluations.
At sentencing, Vanessa looked toward Lucas.
“You chose a dead woman over your living wife.”
Lucas answered only when the judge allowed him.
“No.”
“I chose my living daughter over the woman trying to erase her mother.”
Vanessa looked toward Lily’s empty seat.
“She will understand one day that I tried to save your future.”
The judge stopped her.
“You will not redefine imprisonment as sacrifice.”
Vanessa received thirty-four years.
Adrian received life under the federal racketeering case.
The empire built through guardianship collapsed into evidence boxes and restitution orders.
Outside court, reporters asked Lucas whether justice had been served.
He looked toward Margaret.
