Chapter 10 - THE BOARDROOM WEDDING

Adrian called an emergency board meeting.
He argued Bennett Medical required immediate merger approval.
Lucas attended without the chief executive title.
Margaret appeared as Lily’s trust protector.
Retired Judge Daniel Mercer joined by video.
Caroline Hayes sat beside Lily’s independent attorney.
Adrian presented the edited footage of Lucas striking Vanessa.
Dr. Ward’s report described Lucas as unstable.
Photographs showed him sleeping after evening drinks.
Vanessa had given him pills for stress.
The pills contained a sedative he had never been prescribed.
Adrian argued Lucas could no longer vote Lily’s shares.
Margaret presented the original trust.
All three protectors rejected the merger.
Adrian objected.
He produced resignation letters.
Judge Mercer examined his supposed signature.
“I did not sign this.”
Caroline said the same.
Margaret displayed the forensic report.
The resignations originated from Patrick Sloan’s computer.
Then Claire’s ledger appeared.
Eighteen million dollars in false payments.
Prescott companies.
Prescott auditors.
Prescott medical contractors.
Adrian’s controlled expression began breaking.
Lucas addressed the board.
“I failed to protect private systems from family influence.”
“I allowed one assistant to control every communication.”
“I accepted household decisions without asking my daughter.”
“I will not ask this board to restore my authority today.”
Several directors stared at him.
He proposed an independent chief executive.
Employee representation.
External security oversight.
Permanent separation between family trusts and operational voting.
Then he requested a full forensic audit.
Adrian interrupted.
“You are surrendering your father’s company.”
Lucas looked at him.
“No.”
“I am refusing to make one man the only door into it.”
Margaret voted Lily’s shares against the merger.
The board rejected the deal.
Every Prescott representative was suspended.
Federal agents entered Adrian’s office before the meeting ended.
Claire’s ledger had become part of a racketeering investigation.

The wedding that never happened was supposed to place Vanessa beside Lucas at the head of the company.
Instead, the canceled vows helped expose the family attempting to purchase power with a child’s fear.
