Vanessa’s trial began eighteen months after the canceled wedding.
She faced unlawful imprisonment, child endangerment, fraud, conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, and evidence tampering.
The prosecution began with the wedding.
The chandelier.
The orchestra.
The flower-girl dress.
The locked bathroom.
Then they showed the hidden room behind Lily’s bookcase.
Vanessa’s attorneys described both spaces as safety measures.
They said Lily suffered from grief-related behavior.
They said Lucas traveled constantly.
They said Vanessa had been left to manage an impossible child.
The prosecutor placed the bathroom key on the evidence table.
“Could Lily unlock the door from inside?”
“No.”
“Could she call her father?”
“No.”
“Why was the music increased?”
Vanessa’s wedding planner looked down.
“She told us the child was causing a scene.”
The bathroom footage played.

Margaret authenticated Claire’s letter.
