Chapter 4 - THE PORSCHE WAS MINE

Margaret’s next outrage concerned the car.
She called Daniel’s attorney demanding that the Porsche be returned.
Rebecca answered with the title.
Owner.
Anna Bennett Hawthorne.
Purchased two years before marriage.
No lien.
No Daniel.
Margaret could not understand.
“But Daniel pays insurance.”
No.
My family office did.
“He pays maintenance.”
No.
The Bennett vehicle account did.
“He told us—”
That became the sentence of the week.
He told us.
Daniel told them the estate rescue was his.
Daniel told them the Porsche was his.
Daniel told them I had no career because I was happy staying home.
The truth was stranger.
I had stopped working publicly after Noah was born.
But I never stopped managing investments.
My grandfather, Walter Bennett, built a logistics company before selling it fifteen years earlier.
When he died, he left me controlling interest in Bennett Legacy Capital.
Not billions.
Not an endless fountain of money.
A disciplined private company holding real estate, bonds, private credit, and strategic investments.
I had learned finance from him since I was sixteen.
Daniel knew.
His family did not.
At Daniel’s request.
“My mother will never treat me the same if she knows you rescued us.”
He had said four years earlier.
I loved him.
May you like
So I agreed.
That silence became his favorite inheritance.
