Chapter 15 - THE SON CHOSE HIS CHILD
Daniel called Margaret that evening.
Tessa later told me what happened.
He put the phone on speaker.
“Mom.”
“Daniel, thank God.”
“I heard the kitchen recording.”
Silence.
Then Margaret said.
“You know how your father records everything out of context.”
“No.”
“I heard you.”
“She had the pen.”
Daniel closed his eyes.
“You knew he might react.”
“I knew Anna would handle it.”
That sentence ended something.
Daniel’s entire posture changed.
“You used my wife’s competence as permission to endanger my son.”
Margaret began crying.
“You’re choosing her over your mother?”
Daniel answered.
“No.”
“I’m choosing Noah over the person who knowingly hurt him.”
He told her she would have no direct contact with Noah unless professionals later determined it safe.
Margaret screamed.
Threatened inheritance.
Threatened family disgrace.
Daniel did not fold.
Not that time.
