Emma’s prenatal vitamins had been delivered from Dr. Reeves’s private clinic.
Margaret insisted the family use only Ashford-approved physicians.
Emma accepted the first bottle without concern.
Then she began experiencing dizziness.
Memory gaps.
Moments when she could not remember entering a room.
Dr. Reeves called it pregnancy fatigue.
Margaret called it proof that Emma needed support.
Ethan told her to rest.

Emma must remain functional enough to attend meetings.

Vanessa replied:
After the papers are signed, the dosage can increase.
The email had been sent four days before the staircase fall.
Ethan read it twice.
His hands shook.
“They were going to keep drugging her after the baby was born.”
Ruiz looked at him.
“Possibly.”
“For how long?”
“Until the court accepted incapacity.”
Emma watched Ethan from the hospital bed.
He looked devastated.
She felt no urge to comfort him.
His grief belonged to him.
Her survival belonged to her.
Dr. Reeves eventually admitted altering the medication.
He claimed Margaret threatened to expose fraudulent billing at his clinic.
He said Vanessa delivered the capsules.
He insisted he did not know about the staircase plan.
Ruiz asked whether he knew Thomas Ashford received the same drug.
Reeves requested an attorney.
