Margaret and Vanessa were tried together.
The prosecution began with the staircase.
The green dress.
The torn fabric.
The oil photograph.
The sedative capsules.
The guardianship papers.
Then the case widened.
Thomas’s death.
Elena’s kidnapping.
The manipulated patients.
The foundation payments.
The pearl-camera recordings.
Vanessa’s attorney argued Margaret controlled her.
Margaret’s attorney argued Vanessa acted from jealousy.
Each woman attempted to survive by giving the other a larger share of blame.
The jury watched them turn on each other.
Dr. Reeves testified first.
He admitted altering Thomas’s medication.
“Who ordered the final dose?” the prosecutor asked.
“Margaret.”
“Who delivered it?”
“Vanessa.”
Vanessa shook her head.
Reeves continued.
“She said her father was destroying the family.”
Thomas was her father too.
But control had taught her to speak of him as an obstacle.
Charles testified under a plea agreement.
He admitted helping hide Thomas’s original trust.
He admitted kidnapping Elena.
He described the plan for Emma.
Margaret promised him executive control after Vanessa gained the shares.
Vanessa had separately promised the same position to another director.
The conspiracy was built from overlapping betrayals.
Then Ethan testified.
Margaret stared at him.
He described the documents he signed.
The warnings he dismissed.
The language his mother used.
“Did you participate in the plan?” Vanessa’s attorney asked.
“Not knowingly.”
“Did your actions help them?”
“Yes.”
“Why should the jury trust you now?”
“They should not trust me because I am Ethan Ashford.”
“They should compare what I say with evidence.”
