Sophia requested a press conference from her attorney’s office.
She wore a white blouse and no jewelry.
Her cheek carried a faint mark from Ethan’s blow.
Cameras focused on it.
She described herself as a victim of a powerful man.
She said Ethan attacked her because she corrected his spoiled daughters.
She claimed the twins had behavioral problems.
She called the maid uniforms costumes for a wedding performance.
She denied striking Ava.
Then she displayed an edited video.
The clip began with Sophia on the floor.
Ethan stood over her.
His hand remained raised.
The twins cried behind him.
The moments before the strike were missing.
The video spread instantly.
Commentators accused Ethan of domestic violence.
Some demanded his removal from Bennett Aerospace.
Sophia’s attorneys filed a civil lawsuit.
They also requested a restraining order against Ethan.
Detective Ruiz warned him not to speak publicly.
“The full evidence will come out.”
“Meanwhile, my daughters are being called liars.”
“Protecting them matters more than winning today’s headline.”
Ethan agreed.
It was one of the hardest decisions he had made.
Ava saw the television coverage at school.
Students whispered.
One asked whether she caused her father to attack Sophia.
Ava came home pale.
Ethan considered removing both girls from school.
Dr. Ortiz advised against making another decision without them.
“What do you want?” Ethan asked.
Ava wanted to stay.
Chloe wanted to study at home for a week.
They chose differently.
Ethan honored both choices.
Then Mrs. Bell arrived with an old phone.
“I should have given this to police sooner.”
The housekeeper had secretly recorded the kitchen after hearing Sophia shouting.
The video began before the slap.
It showed Sophia forcing Ava to kneel.
It showed Chloe trying to protect her.
It captured Sophia saying the twins belonged at her feet.
Then the slap came.
Ethan entered.
He embraced the girls.
He confronted Sophia.
Finally, it captured his strike.
The context did not make the blow right.
It made Sophia’s edited video dishonest.
Ethan released the complete recording through his attorney.
His statement contained no excuses.
“I struck Sophia Hale once after witnessing her assault my child.”
“That act was wrong.”
“I accept responsibility for it.”
“It does not erase what happened before it.”
The public response changed.
Not completely.
Some praised his honesty.
Others still condemned him.
Ethan accepted both.
Ava watched the statement.
“You said you were wrong.”
“I was.”
“But she hit me first.”
“That explains my anger.”
“It does not give me permission to lose control.”
Chloe looked toward him.
“Does that mean you won’t protect us?”
“No.”
