CHAPTER 22 THE ARCHITECT BEHIND THE EMPIRE

The underground vault doors slammed shut.

The sound echoed through the ancient stone walls.

Everyone froze.

Mariana immediately turned toward Nico.

Her first instinct was always the same.

Protect him.

No matter how many secrets surrounded her.

No matter how many people had betrayed her.

He was the one person she refused to lose.

The darkness became heavier.

Only the red emergency lights remained.

The faces around her looked different now.

Not like a family.

Like survivors trapped inside a nightmare.

Gabriel.

Mateo.

Isabella.

Sofia.

Elena.

Santiago.

Adrian.

Even Rodrigo.

Every person in that room carried a piece of the truth.

But nobody had the whole picture.

The voice came again.

Calm.

Almost gentle.

"After all these years, the Salcedo family is finally complete."

Mariana looked around.

"Show yourself."

A quiet laugh answered.

"You still sound like your mother."

Sofia's face changed.

"Who are you?"

The voice replied:

"The person who gave your family everything."

The screens inside the vault suddenly turned on.

Old footage appeared.

Black-and-white recordings.

Documents.

Photographs.

The history of the Salcedo family.

But something was wrong.

Every event they knew about...

Had another version.

The first image showed Alejandro.

Young.

Ambitious.

Standing beside another man.

A man nobody recognized.

The stranger placed a hand on Alejandro's shoulder.

Teaching him.

Guiding him.

Controlling him.

Mariana stared.

"Who is that?"

Adrian's expression became cold.

"He is the Architect."

Gabriel looked at him.

"You knew?"

Adrian nodded slowly.

"Everyone in the original family knew."

"Then why didn't you tell us?"

Adrian looked at the screen.

"Because nobody escapes from him."

The recording continued.

The stranger created the foundation of the Salcedo network.

Not businesses.

Not wealth.

Information.

Secrets.

Influence.

He taught the family one rule:

The person who controls the truth controls the world.

Mariana felt sick.

All these years, everyone believed Alejandro was the mastermind.

But Alejandro was only another piece.

Another person controlled by someone more powerful.

Rodrigo stepped closer to the screen.

For the first time, he looked genuinely afraid.

"No."

Mariana looked at him.

"You know him."

Rodrigo didn't answer.

"Who is he?"

His voice was quiet.

"The man who made me what I am."

Everyone turned.

Rodrigo continued:

"When I was young, I thought power meant owning everything."

A bitter smile appeared.

"I was wrong."

"Power means nobody can leave you."

The screens changed.

A new file appeared.

THE FIRST GENERATION EXPERIMENT

Mariana frowned.

"Experiment?"

Adrian nodded.

"The Architect didn't create an empire."

"He created a system."

The documents revealed something horrifying.

For generations, the family had been studied.

Children were observed.

Relationships manipulated.

Conflicts encouraged.

The Architect wasn't interested in money.

He wanted to create the perfect person.

Someone who could control everything.

Mariana looked at the files.

Then stopped.

Because one name appeared repeatedly.

Her name.

MARIANA SALCEDO.

"No."

She stepped back.

"This was all about me?"

A voice answered.

"Yes."

Everyone froze.

The speakers activated again.

"You were the final result."

Mariana looked at the ceiling.

"Who are you?"

Silence.

Then:

"You have already met me."

The room became still.

Everyone looked at each other.

Someone among them.

Someone inside the vault.

Someone they trusted.

Slowly...

Everyone's eyes moved.

Toward Santiago.

Mariana's heart dropped.

"No."

Santiago immediately shook his head.

"No."

But the screens changed.

A new file appeared.

SANTIAGO REYES — ARCHITECT PROGRAM

Nobody spoke.

Mariana stared at him.

"Tell me this isn't true."

Santiago looked broken.

Because this time...

He couldn't deny it.

"I was recruited when I was seventeen."

His voice was barely audible.

"Not by Rodrigo."

"Not by Alejandro."

"By him."

Mariana felt betrayed again.

"You knew."

Santiago looked at her.

"I knew there was someone above the family."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because I was afraid."

She laughed bitterly.

"Everyone is always afraid."

Santiago stepped closer.

"But I didn't know the full truth."

A pause.

"Until today."

Suddenly, the vault door made a sound.

Someone was unlocking it.

Everyone turned.

A figure appeared behind the glass.

A man wearing a dark suit.

Older.

Calm.

Smiling.

Santiago's face went pale.

"No..."

Mariana looked at him.

"Who is he?"

Santiago whispered:

"The Architect."

The door opened.

The man stepped inside.

He looked around at the broken family.

Then his eyes stopped on Mariana.

Not Rodrigo.

Not Alejandro.

Not anyone else.

Her.

"After twenty-eight years..."

He smiled.

"My greatest creation is finally complete."

Mariana stood still.

"I am not your creation."

The man smiled.

"That is exactly why you succeeded."

He looked at Nico.

Then at Mariana.

"The final test begins now."

A screen behind him activated.

A countdown appeared.

72 HOURS REMAINING

Mariana frowned.

"What happens after 72 hours?"

The Architect smiled.

"The world learns the truth about the Salcedos."

A pause.

"And your family decides whether it wants to survive."

The countdown started.

71:59:59

And for the first time...

Mariana realized something terrifying.

May you like

The battle was never about exposing the Salcedo family.

The battle was about deciding whether the world was ready to know what they had built.
