CHAPTER 21 THE HEIR BEFORE THE SALCEDOS

The stranger stood at the entrance of the mansion.

Nobody moved.

Nobody knew whether to attack or run.

Because everyone in the room understood one thing:

This person was different.

Rodrigo was dangerous.

Alejandro was controlling.

Clara was calculating.

But this stranger...

This stranger carried something older.

Something that existed before the Salcedo name became powerful.

Sofia slowly stepped backward.

For the first time, Mariana saw genuine fear on her face.

Not guilt.

Not regret.

Fear.

"Who is he?"

Mariana whispered.

Sofia didn't answer.

Her eyes remained locked on the stranger.

Finally, she spoke.

"His name is Adrian."

A pause.

"And he is the reason the Salcedo family exists."

The stranger entered the mansion calmly.

No guards stopped him.

No alarms activated.

Because somehow...

The entire security system had already accepted him.

Santiago noticed.

"How did he disable everything?"

Adrian smiled.

"Because I built it."

Everyone froze.

Mariana looked at the symbol in his hand.

The original Salcedo symbol.

The one older than Alejandro's empire.

"What do you want?"

Adrian looked at her.

Not with anger.

Not with hatred.

With disappointment.

"I want my family's name back."

Mariana frowned.

"Your family?"

He nodded.

"The Salcedos stole everything."

Alejandro's recorded message suddenly activated.

The old man's voice echoed through the mansion.

"Adrian."

Everyone turned.

The recording continued.

"I knew you would eventually return."

Adrian looked at the screen.

"You always knew."

A cold smile appeared.

"But you were too afraid to face me."

Mariana looked confused.

"Who is he?"

Nobody answered.

Then Gabriel finally spoke.

"The first heir."

The room went silent.

Gabriel continued:

"Before Alejandro."

"Before Rodrigo."

"Before this empire..."

"There was another branch of the family."

Adrian looked toward him.

"The branch your father erased."

Mariana realized something.

The Salcedo family had not only hidden people.

They had hidden entire bloodlines.

Adrian walked toward the table.

He placed an old document beside the Project Mirror files.

A contract.

A signature.

A seal.

"The original inheritance agreement."

Santiago picked it up.

His face changed.

"This is impossible."

"What does it say?" Mariana asked.

Santiago swallowed.

"It says the Salcedo empire was never meant to belong to Alejandro's descendants."

A pause.

"It belonged to Adrian's family."

Everything changed.

The wars.

The betrayals.

The murders.

The lies.

All of it had been connected to one thing.

Ownership.

Adrian looked at Mariana.

"But I don't want the empire."

Everyone was surprised.

"Then why are you here?"

He looked at Nico.

"Because the empire has already chosen its successor."

Mariana immediately stepped in front of her son.

"No."

Adrian looked at her.

"You misunderstand."

"I don't want him as a ruler."

A pause.

"I want him protected."

Mariana hesitated.

"Protected from who?"

Adrian's expression became serious.

"From everyone in this room."

Silence.

The mansion suddenly shook.

The lights flickered.

A message appeared on every screen.

WARNING: ORIGINAL ARCHIVE ACCESSED

Santiago looked at the system.

"Someone opened the underground vault."

Clara's face changed.

"No."

Mariana noticed.

"You know what's inside."

Clara whispered:

"The reason this family destroyed itself."

The vault doors opened beneath the mansion.

Everyone followed the underground passage.

At the bottom was a room untouched for decades.

Inside were thousands of files.

Photographs.

Recordings.

Documents.

But one file caught Mariana's attention.

A black folder.

Her name written across it.

MARIANA SALCEDO — FINAL SUBJECT

She opened it.

Inside was a photograph taken the day she was born.

But there was something impossible.

Standing beside her newborn crib...

Was Adrian.

Mariana looked up.

"You knew me?"

Adrian nodded.

"I was there."

"When you were born."

"Before they separated you."

Her voice became cold.

"Then why didn't you save me?"

Adrian looked at her.

"Because I tried."

A pause.

"And your father stopped me."

Everyone turned.

"Which father?"

Adrian looked toward Rodrigo's portrait.

"Both of them."

Before Mariana could ask more...

A sound came from the entrance.

Footsteps.

Slow.

Heavy.

Everyone turned.

A man appeared.

Older.

Weak.

But alive.

Rodrigo.

Mariana stared.

"You escaped."

Rodrigo smiled faintly.

"No."

A pause.

"I was released."

Everyone froze.

"By who?"

Rodrigo looked at Adrian.

And said:

"By the person who has been controlling us all."

The underground lights turned red.

A final message appeared on the wall.

Not from Rodrigo.

Not from Adrian.

Not from any Salcedo.

Only a name.

A name nobody recognized.

THE ARCHITECT.

Adrian's expression changed.

For the first time...

He looked afraid.

Mariana noticed.

"Who is the Architect?"

Adrian slowly looked at her.

And whispered:

"The person who created the Salcedo family."

A pause.

"The person who created all of us."

The vault doors suddenly locked.

Everyone was trapped underground.

And from the darkness...

May you like

A voice spoke:

"Welcome home, Mariana."
