CHAPTER 18 THE WOMAN WHO LOOKED EXACTLY LIKE MARIANA

The mansion fell into complete silence.
No one moved.
No one spoke.
Because standing at the entrance...
Was Mariana.
Or someone who looked exactly like her.
Same dark hair.
Same eyes.
Same scar near her eyebrow.
Same face.
Same expression.
The only difference...
The woman standing there looked like someone who had spent her entire life preparing for war.
Nico looked between them.
"Mom?"
His small voice broke the silence.
Two identical women turned toward him.
And for the first time...
Mariana understood the true meaning of fear.
Not fear of death.
Fear of losing the last piece of herself.
Santiago stepped forward.
"No..."
He looked at Clara.
"You knew."
Clara remained silent.
The second Mariana smiled.
"You still don't understand."
Everyone looked at her.
She walked slowly into the room.
"I am not a copy."
A pause.
"I am the original."
Mariana felt her heart stop.
"What are you talking about?"
The woman looked at her.
"You spent your whole life believing you were the first."
She smiled.
"But you were the second."
Gabriel stepped forward.
"Impossible."
The woman looked at him.
"Is it?"
She pulled out an old photograph.
A photograph from the day Mariana was born.
Two babies.
Two girls.
Two identical faces.
On the back was a date.
And a name.
PROJECT MIRROR — SUBJECT 01 AND SUBJECT 02
Mariana took the photograph.
Her hands trembled.
"Subject 02..."
She looked at the other woman.
"Then who am I?"
The woman answered:
"Subject 01."
The truth finally began to unfold.
The Mariana Project wasn't about creating an heir.
It was about creating two possibilities.
Alejandro believed power came from preparation.
So he created two paths.
One child raised inside the family.
One child raised away from it.
One would learn power.
One would learn compassion.
One would become like the Salcedos.
One would become their enemy.
"You were separated because Alejandro wanted to see which one would survive."
The woman looked at Mariana.
"And you won."
Mariana shook her head.
"No."
"I didn't win."
She looked at Nico.
"I lost my family."
The woman smiled sadly.
"That is exactly why you became stronger."
Suddenly, Rodrigo appeared on the mansion screen.
Everyone turned.
He looked different.
No confidence.
No arrogance.
Only desperation.
"You finally found each other."
Clara looked at the screen.
"Rodrigo."
His smile disappeared.
"Mother."
The word carried years of hatred.
Mariana stared.
"Why are you doing this?"
Rodrigo laughed.
"Because I am tired."
"Tired of what?"
"Being the villain in everyone else's story."
Everyone became silent.
Rodrigo continued:
"Do you know what they never told you?"
He looked at Mariana.
"Your mother didn't choose Gabriel over me."
Mariana frowned.
"What?"
"She chose you."
Elena's face changed.
Rodrigo continued.
"When the twins were born, Clara wanted to keep both."
"But Elena begged her to save one."
"She chose you."
A pause.
"And abandoned the other."
The second Mariana looked away.
For the first time...
Pain appeared on her face.
Mariana noticed.
"You knew."
The woman nodded.
"I always knew."
The room became heavy.
Two sisters.
Two lives.
Two different childhoods.
Both victims of the same family.
Then Rodrigo revealed the final secret.
"The yacht attack wasn't meant to kill Mariana."
Everyone froze.
"What?"
Rodrigo continued:
"It was meant to force the family to reveal themselves."
Santiago shook his head.
"No."
Rodrigo laughed.
"You still don't understand."
"Someone wanted the truth to come out."
Mariana looked at him.
"Who?"
Rodrigo looked toward Clara.
Everyone turned.
Clara said nothing.
And that silence was the answer.
Mariana stepped back.
"No..."
Clara finally spoke.
"I knew the family had become corrupted."
"So I created a situation where everything would collapse."
Gabriel stared.
"You sacrificed your own family?"
Clara replied:
"I sacrificed an empire."
Mariana felt betrayed again.
Every person she trusted had a reason.
Every person had a plan.
Every person had used her.
Even the people who claimed to protect her.
"You almost killed my son."
Clara looked at Nico.
"No."
She shook her head.
"I saved him."
"From what?"
Clara answered:
"From becoming the next Rodrigo."
Suddenly...
The second Mariana walked toward Nico.
Everyone reacted.
Santiago moved.
But Mariana stopped him.
"Wait."
The woman looked at Nico.
"I'm not here to hurt him."
She knelt.
"I'm here because he is the only person in this family who is still innocent."
Then she handed Nico a small box.
Mariana recognized it.
An old family symbol.
The same symbol from the necklace.
"What is that?"
The woman looked at her.
"The final inheritance."
Mariana opened the box.
Inside was a key.
But not a normal key.
It had coordinates engraved on it.
And one sentence:
WHEN THE FAMILY FALLS, OPEN THE FIRST VAULT.
Before anyone could ask...
Every phone in the room received the same message.
Unknown sender.
One line:
CONGRATULATIONS. YOU FOUND THE TWINS.
A second message appeared.
NOW FIND THE THIRD CHILD.
Everyone froze.
Gabriel whispered:
"Third child?"
Clara's face turned pale.
For the first time...
She looked afraid.
"No..."
Mariana looked at her.
"Who?"
Clara slowly whispered:
"The child who was never supposed to exist."
The mansion lights went out.
A final image appeared on the security screen.
A young boy.
Around Nico's age.
Holding an old Salcedo symbol.

Underneath the picture were five words:
HE IS THE TRUE HEIR.
