CHAPTER 15 — The Last Choice

The old Carver estate stood in silence.

The place where secrets were buried.

The place where families were destroyed.

The place where Daniel Carver had lost his brother fifteen years ago.

And now…

The place where everything would finally end.

The man standing beside Richard stepped forward.

Daniel stared at him.

He knew that face.

Not from memory.

From photographs.

Old family records.

A forgotten chapter of the Carver history.

“Thomas.”

The man smiled.

“So you do remember.”

Daniel’s expression hardened.

“You’re supposed to be dead.”

Thomas laughed softly.

“Apparently, that is a popular tradition in this family.”

Michael stepped forward.

“You were the one helping Richard.”

Thomas nodded.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Thomas looked around the old mansion.

“Because everything here was supposed to belong to me.”

Richard opened an old document.

“The Carver inheritance was never supposed to go to Daniel.”

He looked at Hannah.

“The child carries the final proof.”

Daniel’s eyes narrowed.

“You’re talking about a baby.”

Richard smiled.

“I’m talking about blood.”

Hannah moved closer to Daniel.

“No one is taking my child.”

Richard looked amused.

“You still don’t understand.”

He pointed at the documents.

“This family has spent generations fighting over names, companies, and money.”

A pause.

“But the child is the one thing nobody can control.”

Thomas stepped closer.

“Victor built an empire.”

He looked at Daniel.

“Michael tried to destroy it.”

Then he looked at Hannah.

“And your baby will decide who owns it.”

Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

Thomas smiled.

“You sound like our father.”

The words hit Daniel.

Because he realized something.

Thomas was not just fighting for money.

He was fighting because he believed he had been forgotten.

Suddenly, Claire spoke.

Everyone turned.

“I have the evidence.”

Richard’s face changed.

“What?”

Claire pulled a small drive from her coat.

“The original documents.”

Daniel stared at her.

“You had them?”

Claire nodded.

“I took them from Richard.”

Richard stepped forward.

“You wouldn’t.”

Claire looked at him.

“You used me.”

A pause.

“You destroyed my life.”

Her voice became calm.

“I have nothing left to protect.”

She handed the drive to Marcus.

“Make sure the world sees it.”

Richard’s confidence disappeared.

For the first time…

He looked afraid.

Marcus connected the drive.

Files appeared.

Financial records.

Secret accounts.

Illegal operations.

Proof of Victor’s crimes.

Proof of Richard’s manipulation.

And proof that Aaron Brooks died because they wanted the truth buried.

Daniel watched the screen.

Then looked at Hannah.

“I’m sorry.”

She knew what he meant.

For every secret.

Every lie.

Every moment she suffered because of the Carver name.

Victor remained silent.

Until finally he spoke.

“You think exposing me changes anything?”

Everyone looked at him.

Victor smiled.

“Power does not disappear because people know the truth.”

Daniel looked at his father.

“No.”

A pause.

“But people do.”

Victor frowned.

“What?”

Daniel stepped forward.

“You spent your whole life believing fear was power.”

His voice became stronger.

“But fear only works until someone stops being afraid.”

For the first time…

Victor Carver looked old.

Months passed.

The Carver empire changed forever.

The investigations exposed everything.

Richard Vale was arrested.

Thomas disappeared after losing his claim.

Victor faced the consequences of his crimes.

Claire testified against everyone involved.

She did not ask for forgiveness.

She knew she did not deserve it.

But she finally accepted responsibility.

Hannah gave birth on a quiet spring morning.

Daniel was there.

Michael was there.

Caleb was there.

And so was the memory of Aaron.

The man who loved a child that was not biologically his.

The man who protected the truth even when it cost him his life.

Hannah held the baby close.

A little girl.

With dark hair.

And curious eyes.

Daniel smiled.

“She looks like you.”

Hannah looked at him.

“She has your stubbornness.”

Daniel laughed softly.

For the first time in years…

The Carver mansion felt peaceful.

Not because there were no secrets.

But because the truth was finally out.

One year later, Hannah stood in the garden of the mansion.

The same place where she once felt powerless.

The same place where Claire tried to break her.

Now her daughter played nearby.

Michael watched proudly.

Daniel stood beside Hannah.

“You ever think about leaving this place?”

She smiled.

“Sometimes.”

“And?”

She looked toward the house.

“Then I remember something.”

“What?”

“That a place isn’t defined by the people who hurt you.”

A pause.

“It’s defined by the people who choose to protect you.”

Daniel took her hand.

And for the first time…

The Carver name meant something different.

Not fear.

Not power.

Not control.

Family.

Because the greatest secret the Carvers ever hid…

Was not about money.

Not about inheritance.

Not about blood.

It was about one simple truth:

May you like

Love could survive even in the darkest families.

THE END
