CHAPTER 10 — The Truth About Aaron and Daniel

The photograph slipped from Hannah’s fingers.

For several seconds, she could not move.

The hallway around her became distant.

The sounds of the mansion disappeared.

All she could see was the picture.

Aaron.

Standing beside Daniel Carver.

Two men who, according to everything she believed, had never met.

But they were smiling.

Not like strangers.

Like old friends.

Her heart began racing.

“What is this?”

The question came out as a whisper.

Daniel found her moments later.

He immediately noticed something was wrong.

“Hannah?”

She turned.

Her expression was different.

Not angry.

Not afraid.

Confused.

She held up the photograph.

“Explain.”

Daniel took it.

The moment he saw it, his face changed.

“You know him?”

The silence was enough.

Hannah stepped back.

“You did.”

Daniel looked at the picture again.

“I knew Aaron.”

Her eyes filled with disbelief.

“Then why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because I thought he wanted his past hidden.”

“That’s not your decision to make.”

She was right.

And Daniel knew it.

“I met Aaron three years ago.”

“Why?”

Daniel sat down slowly.

“Because he saved my life.”

Three years earlier.

Before the Carver family had become surrounded by rumors.

Before Michael returned.

Before Hannah entered the mansion.

Daniel had been investigating missing shipments connected to his own company.

He suspected someone inside his organization was stealing from him.

During that investigation, his car was attacked.

The brakes had been damaged.

The vehicle crashed near the harbor.

Daniel survived.

Barely.

And the person who found him was Aaron Brooks.

“Aaron pulled me out before the car caught fire,” Daniel explained.

Hannah listened silently.

“He could have left me there.”

“But he didn’t.”

“No.”

Daniel looked down.

“He told me something that day.”

“What?”

“He said, ‘A person’s name doesn’t decide whether they’re good or bad. Their choices do.’”

The same words Aaron had lived by.

The same words he had written in the letter.

Hannah looked away.

“So Aaron knew who you really were.”

“Yes.”

“And he trusted you.”

“Yes.”

“Then why did he hide everything from me?”

Daniel had no answer.

Because that was the one thing he couldn’t explain.

At the same time, Eleanor Carver sat alone in her mansion.

Daniel arrived without warning.

His anger was controlled.

Which made it more dangerous.

“You need to tell me the truth.”

His mother looked up.

“About what?”

“About Michael.”

Her face changed.

“Daniel—”

“No.”

His voice stopped her.

“I spent fifteen years believing my brother died.”

A pause.

“You let me mourn him.”

Eleanor looked away.

“I was protecting you.”

“That excuse is becoming very old.”

The words hurt.

But she accepted them.

“Your father wanted Michael gone.”

Daniel froze.

“What?”

Eleanor closed her eyes.

“Michael discovered what your father had done.”

“What did he discover?”

“Your father created illegal accounts. Secret companies. Hidden money.”

Daniel felt cold.

“The same accounts connected to Aaron.”

She nodded.

“Yes.”

“Then why didn’t you stop him?”

A tear moved down Eleanor’s face.

“Because I was afraid.”

Daniel had never heard his mother admit fear.

“Of what?”

“Of losing both my sons.”

Meanwhile, Claire Whitlock waited in the abandoned warehouse.

Richard Vale entered.

She looked at him.

“You told me everything would be handled.”

Richard smiled.

“You’re becoming impatient.”

“Michael is alive.”

“Yes.”

“Daniel knows.”

“Yes.”

“And Hannah knows about the baby.”

Richard’s expression remained calm.

“Not everything.”

Claire frowned.

“What does that mean?”

Richard placed a folder on the table.

“Because the biggest secret is still hidden.”

Claire opened it.

Inside were medical records.

Her eyes widened.

“No.”

Richard smiled.

“Now you understand.”

Claire looked at the papers again.

The impossible truth.

The truth that could destroy everyone.

“The baby…”

Richard nodded.

“Is not only Michael Carver’s child.”

Claire looked up.

“Then whose?”

Richard leaned closer.

“The child carries something far more valuable.”

“What?”

“The legal claim to the entire Carver empire.”

Back at the mansion, Hannah stood beside the window.

Daniel approached carefully.

“I owe you the truth.”

She looked at him.

“Yes.”

He nodded.

“I should have told you about Aaron.”

“Yes.”

A pause.

“But I didn’t because I was afraid.”

That surprised her.

“Daniel Carver is afraid?”

He looked at her.

“Yes.”

“Of what?”

He answered honestly.

“Of finding out that everything I built was based on lies.”

For the first time, Hannah saw the man behind the reputation.

Not the mafia boss.

Not the powerful businessman.

Just Daniel.

A man who had lost his brother.

A man betrayed by his family.

A man searching for the same truth she was.

Then her phone rang.

Unknown number.

She answered.

A familiar voice whispered.

“Hannah…”

Her breath stopped.

“Caleb?”

Her missing brother spoke only five words.

“Your baby is in danger.”

Then the call ended.

And outside the mansion gates…

A black car slowly stopped.

Someone stepped out.

Someone who had been watching Hannah for months.

May you like

Someone who knew the secret even Michael didn’t know.

The real father of the child was still alive.
