CHAPTER 13 — The Bloodline War

The words echoed inside the abandoned warehouse.
“The child is the beginning of a new empire.”
Nobody moved.
Nobody breathed.
Because everyone finally understood.
The baby Hannah carried was not just a secret.
Not just an inheritance.
Not just a connection to the Carver family.
The child represented something much bigger.
A power struggle that had existed long before Hannah ever entered the mansion.
Daniel looked at Michael.
“Tell me the truth.”
Michael avoided his eyes.
“Daniel…”
“No.”
His voice was quiet.
But everyone felt the danger in it.
“I spent fifteen years believing lies.”
A pause.
“I will not hear another one.”
Michael looked at Hannah.
Then finally spoke.
“Your baby’s grandmother was a woman named Elena Rossi.”
Hannah frowned.
“I don’t know that name.”
“You weren’t supposed to.”
Michael continued.
“Before Victor Carver built his empire, before the Carver name controlled Providence, there was another family.”
Daniel understood.
“The Rossi family.”
Michael nodded.
“The Carvers and the Rossis were enemies for decades.”
Victor smiled.
“Enemies is such a simple word.”
Everyone looked at him.
“It was a war.”
Michael explained.
Years ago, Victor Carver and Elena Rossi had a secret relationship.
A relationship neither family knew about.
When Elena became pregnant, Victor chose power over love.
He abandoned her.
He built the Carver empire.
And Elena disappeared with the child.
A child whose existence could change everything.
Daniel looked at Victor.
“You knew.”
Victor said nothing.
“You knew there was another heir.”
“Yes.”
“And you hid it.”
“I protected what belonged to me.”
Hannah looked disgusted.
“Your own child was just another possession.”
Victor looked at her.
“You still think like a victim.”
“No.”
Hannah’s voice became stronger.
“I think like a mother.”
The room became silent.
Because everyone heard the difference.
Hannah was no longer the frightened maid who stood beneath the chandelier.
She was a woman protecting her child.
Suddenly, Marcus entered.
“Daniel.”
Everyone turned.
His face was serious.
“We found Claire.”
Daniel looked surprised.
“Where?”
Marcus hesitated.
“She’s not alone.”
A bad feeling moved through the room.
“Who is with her?”
Marcus looked at Victor.
Then answered:
“Your father’s lawyer.”
Richard Vale.
The man who had controlled everything from the shadows.
Inside the warehouse across town, Claire paced nervously.
Richard watched her.
“You said this would work.”
“It still will.”
“No.”
Claire shook her head.
“You lied to me.”
Richard smiled.
“You finally understand.”
Claire’s expression changed.
“You never cared about Daniel.”
“No.”
“You never cared about the Carver family.”
“No.”
“Then what did you want?”
Richard walked toward the window.
“The same thing everyone wants.”
“Power?”
He smiled.
“Control.”
Claire stared at him.
“You used me.”
“Yes.”
The answer was immediate.
Claire’s anger turned into fear.
“You told me Daniel would marry me.”
“You believed what you wanted to believe.”
Richard turned.
“You wanted the Carver name.”
A pause.
“I wanted the child.”
Claire froze.
Back at the harbor, Hannah felt another wave of pain.
Daniel immediately noticed.
“We need to leave.”
She nodded.
But before they could move, Victor spoke.
“You won’t get far.”
Daniel looked at him.
“Try me.”
Victor smiled.
For the first time, Daniel saw something different.
Not confidence.
Not arrogance.
Fear.
“You still don’t understand.”
“What?”
Victor looked at Hannah.
“The child was never the only secret.”
Michael suddenly stepped forward.
“Stop.”
Victor ignored him.
“The real reason Aaron died…”
Everyone became still.
“…was because he discovered the identity of the child’s real father.”
Hannah froze.
“What?”
Daniel turned sharply toward Michael.
Michael’s face went pale.
“No.”
Victor smiled.
“Yes.”
Hannah looked at Michael.
“Tell me.”
Michael said nothing.
Her voice broke.
“Tell me!”
Finally, Michael whispered:
“Aaron was not the father.”
Everyone knew that.
But Michael continued.
“The child is mine.”
Hannah stared at him.
“I know.”
The words shocked everyone.
Michael looked at her.
“What?”
Hannah touched her stomach.
“Aaron told me.”
Silence.
“He knew?”
Hannah nodded.
“He knew before he died.”
Daniel looked confused.
“Then why did he stay?”
Hannah’s eyes filled with tears.
“Because Aaron loved me.”
A pause.
“And he loved this baby.”
For a moment, even Victor was silent.
Because he understood something.
Aaron Brooks had done what none of them expected.
He had chosen love over blood.
And that made him more dangerous than any enemy.
Then the warehouse doors suddenly opened.
Claire walked in.
But she was not the same woman who had entered the mansion months earlier.
The confidence was gone.
The arrogance was gone.
She looked broken.
“I know who killed Aaron.”
Everyone turned.
Daniel stepped forward.
“Who?”
Claire looked directly at Victor.
Then said:
“It wasn’t Richard.”
A pause.
“It wasn’t Michael.”
Her voice shook.
May you like
“It was me.”
The room went silent.
