CHAPTER 12 — The Father Who Never Died

The harbor became completely silent.

Even the waves seemed to stop.

Daniel stared at the man standing beneath the broken warehouse lights.

For fifteen years, he had carried a memory.

A funeral.

A coffin.

A goodbye.

His father had died.

At least…

That was what he had been told.

But now the man who had shaped his entire childhood was standing in front of him.

Alive.

Older.

Cold.

Victor Carver.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Until Daniel finally found his voice.

“No.”

Victor tilted his head.

“You always were the stubborn one.”

Daniel’s hands tightened.

“You’re dead.”

Victor smiled slightly.

“That’s what everyone was supposed to believe.”

Michael stepped forward.

His face showed something Daniel had never seen before.

Fear.

“You.”

Victor looked at his younger son.

“You survived too.”

Michael’s voice was filled with anger.

“You destroyed everything.”

Victor ignored him.

His eyes moved to Hannah.

Then to her stomach.

A slow smile appeared.

“So this is the child.”

Hannah immediately stepped back.

Daniel moved in front of her.

A simple gesture.

But everyone understood.

Nobody touched Hannah.

Nobody touched the baby.

Victor noticed.

“Interesting.”

“What?” Daniel asked.

“You finally learned what your mother failed to teach you.”

Daniel’s eyes narrowed.

“What does that mean?”

Victor walked closer.

“Family is not about protecting blood.”

A pause.

“It’s about protecting power.”

Caleb revealed the truth.

The story everyone believed was false.

Fifteen years ago, Victor Carver had not died.

He had disappeared intentionally.

He had created a fake death to escape investigations into the family empire.

But before leaving, he changed everything.

He created hidden accounts.

Secret companies.

False inheritance documents.

And he manipulated everyone around him.

Including his own children.

“He wanted Michael gone because Michael discovered the truth,” Caleb explained.

Daniel looked at his father.

“And me?”

Victor smiled.

“You were always useful.”

The words hit harder than any physical attack.

Daniel remained silent.

Victor continued.

“You had the reputation. The connections. The loyalty.”

“You used me.”

“Yes.”

The honesty was terrifying.

“I built you into the perfect heir.”

Daniel looked disgusted.

“I thought I became powerful.”

Victor smiled.

“You became exactly what I needed.”

Hannah looked at Victor.

“And Aaron?”

The question changed the atmosphere.

Victor’s expression remained calm.

But his silence was enough.

Daniel noticed.

“You killed him.”

Victor looked at him.

“No.”

A pause.

“But I allowed it.”

Hannah felt her heart break.

“Aaron died because of you.”

Victor looked at her coldly.

“Aaron was a problem.”

“He was a person.”

Victor shrugged.

“He chose to interfere.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“You destroyed innocent lives.”

Victor looked amused.

“Don’t pretend you are different.”

Daniel froze.

“You built your empire using my methods.”

The words hurt because part of Daniel feared they were true.

But then he looked at Hannah.

At Michael.

At Caleb.

And he understood.

Power was not the problem.

What people did with power was.

Suddenly, gunshots exploded outside.

Everyone dropped.

Security rushed into position.

Marcus shouted:

“We have movement!”

Victor smiled.

“You’re late.”

Daniel looked at him.

“What did you do?”

Victor calmly adjusted his coat.

“I prepared for this moment.”

The warehouse doors opened.

Men entered.

But they were not Victor’s men.

They wore Carver security uniforms.

Daniel recognized them.

His own people.

Betrayed.

Amid the chaos, Hannah felt a sharp pain.

She grabbed her stomach.

Daniel immediately noticed.

“Hannah?”

Her face went pale.

“The baby…”

Michael rushed toward her.

But before anyone could move, Victor spoke.

“Take her.”

Everyone stopped.

Daniel looked at him.

“What did you say?”

Victor’s expression remained emotionless.

“The child belongs to the Carver legacy.”

Daniel’s voice became deadly.

“No.”

Victor smiled.

“That is where you are wrong.”

He looked at Hannah.

“You still don’t understand.”

“The baby isn’t valuable because of inheritance.”

A pause.

“The baby is valuable because of identity.”

Hannah stared at him.

“What are you talking about?”

Victor smiled.

“Ask Michael.”

Everyone turned.

Michael’s face had gone pale.

Because he knew.

He knew the final secret.

Daniel looked at his brother.

“What isn’t he telling us?”

Michael closed his eyes.

Then whispered:

“The baby’s blood is not only Carver.”

Silence.

“What does that mean?” Hannah asked.

Michael looked at Daniel.

Then said:

“The child is connected to another family.”

Daniel waited.

“Which family?”

Michael answered:

“The family that has been fighting the Carvers for fifty years.”

A cold silence filled the warehouse.

Victor smiled.

“Now you understand.”

“The child is the beginning of a new empire.”

And for the first time…

Everyone realized the truth.

May you like

The war had never been about money.

It had always been about the baby.
