Chapter 9 — The Secret Inside the Necklace

The next morning, Daniel contacted a private jeweler who had worked with the Harrington family for decades.

His name was Michael Reed.

When he saw the necklace, his expression changed.

“I thought this was destroyed.”

Emily immediately noticed.

“What do you mean?”

Michael looked uncomfortable.

“This necklace was never supposed to exist anymore.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Explain.”

Michael carefully examined the jewelry.

“Your grandfather modified it years ago.”

“Modified it how?”

Michael pointed toward the center diamond.

“This stone is not real.”

Emily frowned.

“What?”

“It looks like a diamond, but it’s a casing.”

Daniel and Emily exchanged a glance.

“A casing for what?”

Michael took a small tool.

He carefully removed the hidden compartment.

Inside was something tiny.

A memory card.

Emily stared.

Her entire life had been hidden inside something worn around someone’s neck.

Daniel looked at her.

“Are you ready?”

No.

She wasn’t.

But she nodded.

Michael connected the memory card to a computer.

A single video file appeared.

Created twenty-five years earlier.

The screen went black.

Then a familiar voice filled the room.

Emily stopped breathing.

Her mother.

Sarah Carter.

Older than she remembered.

But alive.

“Emily…”

Tears immediately filled her eyes.

Her mother looked directly into the camera.

“If you are watching this, then I couldn’t protect you forever.”

Emily covered her mouth.

Sarah continued.

“I need you to know something first.”

She paused.

“You were never abandoned.”

Emily cried silently.

“Your father did not leave us.”

Daniel looked shocked.

Sarah’s voice continued.

“He was killed because he discovered the truth about Thomas Harrington.”

Emily froze.

Thomas.

The missing uncle.

“The Harrington fortune was not built honestly. Your grandfather discovered financial crimes inside the company. Thomas wanted control. When your father tried to expose him…”

The video paused briefly.

Then Sarah whispered:

“He was murdered.”

The room became silent.

Daniel stepped back.

“My father…”

Emily looked at him.

“He knew.”

Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

But his face showed uncertainty.

Sarah continued:

“Margaret tried to help us. She tried to protect you. But she was too afraid.”

Emily closed her eyes.

Her mother had carried this pain alone.

For decades.

Then Sarah said the final words:

“Emily, the person who destroyed our family is still alive.”

The video ended.

And at that exact moment…

Someone knocked on the door.

Everyone turned.

A voice came from outside.

“Emily?”

Her heart stopped.

Because she recognized it.

May you like

Vanessa.

“I need to tell you the truth.”
