CHAPTER 3 — The Woman Who Came To Destroy The Whitmores

Emily Carter sat alone inside her apartment.
Her wedding dress was still hanging in the corner.
She hadn't removed it.
She hadn't cried.
She simply stared at the television screen.
Her own face appeared everywhere.
News channels.
Social media.
Entertainment websites.
Everyone called her cruel.
Heartless.
A woman who humiliated an elderly mother.
But nobody knew the truth.
Nobody knew why she reacted.
Her phone rang.
She looked at the screen.
Unknown number.
She answered.
"Hello?"
A man's voice responded.
"You failed."
Emily's expression changed.
"What?"
"You were supposed to get Margaret to confess publicly."
"I tried."
"No. You lost control."
Emily stood.
"Don't talk to me like that."
The man laughed quietly.
"You forget who helped you get close to Daniel."
Emily clenched her fist.
"I don't need your help anymore."
A pause.
Then the man's voice became colder.
"You should be careful, Emily."
"You think Daniel canceled a wedding?"
"You think this is the end?"
"No."
"This is the beginning."
The call ended.
Emily looked at her reflection.
For the first time...
she looked afraid.
Because she realized something.
She had entered the Whitmore family to uncover a secret.
But she was not the only person hiding something.
Across the city, Daniel stood in his father's study.
Holding the letter.
Reading the final sentence again and again.
"Your mother knows why my daughter disappeared."
Daniel's breathing stopped.
His mother had always told him Claire was gone.
But never explained why.
Never explained where.
Never explained what happened.
And now...
the woman he almost married knew the truth.
The woman he trusted most had lied.
Daniel looked out the window.
The wedding was supposed to start a new chapter.
Instead...
it had opened a twenty-eight-year-old mystery.

And somewhere in the darkness...
someone was waiting for the Whitmore family to fall.
