CHAPTER 14 — The Bloodline Secret

The words echoed through the mansion.

"Victor."

Daniel felt like the air had disappeared.

His entire life.

Every memory.

Every photograph.

Every story.

Everything suddenly felt like it belonged to someone else.

He stared at Margaret.

His voice came out quietly.

"Say that again."

Margaret couldn't look at him.

"Daniel..."

"No."

He stepped closer.

"I need to hear you say it."

A tear rolled down her cheek.

"Victor Whitmore is your biological father."

Silence.

Nobody moved.

Nobody knew what to say.

Daniel walked away.

He didn't run.

He didn't yell.

That would have been easier.

Instead, he walked through the mansion like a stranger.

The walls that once represented his family now felt like they were closing in around him.

He stopped in front of an old family portrait.

Jonathan.

Margaret.

Daniel as a child.

A perfect family.

A perfect lie.

"Was any of it real?"

His voice cracked.

Margaret followed him.

"Yes."

"How?"

"How can it be real when everyone lied?"

She stopped.

"Because love was real."

Daniel turned.

"You stole me from my father."

"No."

Margaret shook her head.

"Victor was never your father."

The answer confused him.

"What does that mean?"

She took a deep breath.

"Biologically, yes."

"But a father is the person who protects you."

"The person who stays."

"The person who chooses you."

Her voice broke.

"Victor never did that."

Twenty-eight years earlier...

Margaret remembered the night everything changed.

She had discovered the truth shortly after marrying Jonathan.

Victor had confessed.

Not because he regretted anything.

Because he wanted control.

He told her:

"Jonathan has everything I should have."

"The company."

"The respect."

"The family."

"He doesn't deserve it."

Margaret had been horrified.

Especially after learning Sarah was pregnant.

Victor had been manipulating everyone.

Using secrets as weapons.

When Daniel was born, Victor saw him differently.

Not as a son.

As a tool.

A way to claim the Whitmore legacy.

Jonathan realized the danger.

And together with Margaret...

they protected Daniel.

"But why didn't you tell me?"

Daniel asked.

Margaret looked at him.

"Because Victor made sure the truth would destroy you."

"He threatened everyone."

"Sarah."

"Claire."

"Rebecca."

"Even Jonathan."

Daniel's eyes narrowed.

"Wait."

"Claire and Sarah..."

"Both?"

Margaret nodded.

"Victor was behind both situations."

"He wanted every child connected to Jonathan destroyed."

Daniel felt sick.

"Why?"

"Because he believed if nobody else existed..."

"Everything would belong to him."

Meanwhile, Victor was hiding in an underground room beneath the abandoned mansion.

He sat in darkness.

A wound on his arm from the gunshot.

But he wasn't alone.

Someone stood across from him.

Someone who had been helping him.

Someone Daniel would never expect.

"You failed."

Victor looked up.

"I didn't fail."

"You exposed yourself."

Victor smiled.

"No."

"I exposed them."

The person stepped closer.

"You don't understand."

"The plan was never to reveal the truth."

"The plan was to control the truth."

Victor looked at the person.

For the first time, anger appeared on his face.

"You think you are smarter than me?"

The person laughed.

"I already proved it."

Back at the mansion, Daniel sat with Alexander.

For the first time, the two brothers weren't fighting.

They were simply trying to understand their lives.

"So we're both victims."

Alexander nodded.

"Looks like it."

Daniel looked at him.

"Why did you really come back?"

Alexander was silent.

Then he answered honestly.

"I wanted them to hurt."

"Who?"

"Everyone who knew."

Daniel understood.

"But you didn't know the whole story."

Alexander looked down.

"No."

A long pause.

Then he said something unexpected.

"I hated you because I thought you had everything."

Daniel smiled sadly.

"And I hated you because I thought you wanted to take my family."

Alexander looked at him.

"We were both wrong."

For the first time...

they shook hands.

Not as enemies.

As brothers.

That night, Emily returned to the mansion.

She looked troubled.

Daniel immediately noticed.

"What happened?"

She placed a folder on the table.

"I found something."

"What?"

"My father wasn't investigating the Whitmores because of Claire."

Daniel frowned.

"Then why?"

Emily opened the folder.

Inside were documents from twenty years ago.

Financial records.

Secret transfers.

Names.

One name appeared repeatedly.

Victor Whitmore.

But that wasn't what shocked Daniel.

It was the second name.

The person who helped Victor move money.

The person who covered evidence.

The person who erased records.

Daniel stared.

"No..."

Emily nodded.

"I know."

The name belonged to someone they all trusted.

Someone who had been beside the family for years.

Someone who had helped raise Daniel.

Before they could say anything...

the mansion security system activated.

A message appeared on every screen.

A live video.

Victor.

But he wasn't alone.

Beside him stood the person from the documents.

Daniel froze.

Because the person turned toward the camera.

And smiled.

"Hello, Daniel."

It was someone he had known his entire life.

Someone he called family.

Someone who had never been suspected.

The person spoke:

"You spent your life looking for the villain."

"But you never noticed..."

"I was standing right beside you."

The screen went black.

Nobody spoke.

Then Margaret whispered:

"No..."

Her face filled with fear.

Because she finally understood.

The person behind everything.

The person controlling Victor.

The person who destroyed Claire.

May you like

The person who manipulated Jonathan.

Had been waiting patiently for decades.
