CHAPTER 18 — The Wedding Was a Trap

Daniel read the sentence again.

And again.

"The bride must believe she is the victim."

His hands tightened around the laptop.

For weeks, everyone had believed the wedding ended because Emily lost control.

Because she humiliated Margaret.

Because she screamed at an elderly woman holding roses.

But now...

Daniel understood.

The wedding had not collapsed because of a moment of anger.

It had collapsed because someone planned it.

Someone wanted him to lose everything.

His marriage.

His family.

His trust.

Daniel continued scrolling through the files.

The documents contained schedules.

Photos.

Private messages.

Every detail of the wedding had been monitored.

The flowers.

The guests.

The seating arrangement.

Even the moment Margaret approached Emily.

Someone had planned every second.

Then Daniel saw a name.

A name that made his heart stop.

Operation Rose.

The entire wedding disaster had a name.

And beneath it was a list of people involved.

Daniel expected to see strangers.

Enemies.

People from outside the family.

But instead...

he saw names he knew.

People he trusted.

The first name shocked him.

Margaret Whitmore.

Daniel froze.

"No..."

He stared at the screen.

Impossible.

His mother?

The woman who had protected him his entire life?

The woman who had suffered because of the family secrets?

Why would she destroy his wedding?

Then he saw the second name.

Emily Carter.

His heart sank.

His fiancée.

The woman who had claimed she was only searching for the truth.

The woman who had apologized.

The woman he had started trusting again.

Both of them.

Connected.

"Daniel."

He quickly closed the laptop.

Emily stood in the doorway.

Her expression changed when she saw his face.

"What happened?"

Daniel looked at her.

For a moment, he didn't recognize her.

"How long?"

Emily became still.

"What?"

"How long were you planning this?"

Her face turned pale.

"Planning what?"

He turned the laptop toward her.

She saw the screen.

And all color disappeared from her face.

"Where did you find this?"

Daniel stood.

"Answer me."

Emily looked at the files.

Then at him.

"I didn't do this."

"But your name is there."

"I know."

"Then explain."

Emily took a deep breath.

"I was investigating the wedding."

"Not destroying it."

Daniel stared.

"Why?"

"Because I knew something would happen."

"What?"

Emily's voice became quiet.

"Someone wanted to use your wedding to expose Margaret."

Daniel frowned.

"Explain."

Emily sat down.

"My father spent years investigating the Whitmores."

"He discovered someone was trying to destroy your family from inside."

"Your wedding was supposed to be the final move."

Daniel looked confused.

"Final move?"

Emily nodded.

"The plan was simple."

"Make Margaret look cruel."

"Make me look unstable."

"Make you choose between your mother and your wife."

"And then..."

She stopped.

"And then what?"

Emily looked at him.

"Then they would have complete control over you."

Daniel stepped back.

"So the fight..."

Emily nodded.

"It was real."

"But not what you think."

"What happened?"

Emily looked down.

"When Margaret touched my veil, she whispered something."

Daniel froze.

"What?"

Emily's eyes filled with tears.

"She said..."

"Don't trust anyone in this room."

Daniel became silent.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because I saw fear in her eyes."

"I thought she was involved."

"So you attacked her?"

Emily looked ashamed.

"I panicked."

"I thought she was threatening me."

Daniel looked away.

The truth was becoming harder.

Everyone had been hurt.

Everyone had made mistakes.

Everyone had been manipulated.

Then Margaret entered.

She had heard everything.

"Daniel."

He turned.

"Mom."

She looked at the laptop.

"I hoped you would never find that."

Daniel stared.

"Is it true?"

Margaret sighed.

"Yes."

"You knew about the plan?"

"Yes."

"And you still let the wedding happen?"

A tear fell from her eyes.

"I was trying to find the person behind it."

Daniel's voice became painful.

"By sacrificing me?"

"No."

She shook her head.

"I was protecting you."

Daniel laughed sadly.

"Everyone says that."

"Everyone protects me with lies."

Margaret looked broken.

"I thought I could handle it."

"But I was wrong."

Suddenly, Alexander entered.

His face was serious.

"You need to see this."

He held a folder.

"What is it?"

"Proof."

He placed it on the table.

"Proof of who created Operation Rose."

Daniel opened it.

The first page contained financial records.

Payments.

Transfers.

Messages.

Then he saw the signature.

The person who authorized everything.

The person who controlled the plan.

The person who had manipulated Emily.

Margaret.

Alexander.

Victor.

Everyone.

The name was written clearly.

Eleanor Whitmore.

Daniel looked up.

"She planned the wedding?"

Alexander nodded.

"Yes."

"Why?"

Emily answered.

"Because she needed to separate you from everyone."

Daniel stared.

"Why me?"

Alexander looked at him.

"Because you are the final heir."

Daniel shook his head.

"That doesn't make sense."

Alexander pointed at the file.

"Read the last page."

Daniel turned.

There was a message from Eleanor.

"A lonely heir is easier to control."

Daniel felt cold.

The wedding wasn't about Emily.

It wasn't about Margaret.

It wasn't about roses.

It was about isolating him.

Then every phone in the room received the same message.

A video.

From Eleanor.

She appeared calm.

Almost peaceful.

"I see you finally understand."

Daniel watched.

"You spent your entire life searching for a family."

Eleanor smiled.

"But families are weaknesses."

"They create emotions."

"Emotions create mistakes."

She leaned closer.

"That is why I removed them."

Daniel stared.

"What do you want?"

Eleanor answered:

"The empire."

A pause.

"And you."

The video continued.

"Tomorrow, Daniel, you will make a choice."

"Your family..."

"Or the Whitmore legacy."

The screen went black.

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone understood.

The final battle had begun.

Eleanor wasn't trying to destroy the Whitmores anymore.

She was forcing Daniel to decide whether he belonged to them.

Or whether he would finally walk away.

But Daniel noticed something.

A small detail in the video.

Something nobody else saw.

A reflection in Eleanor's window.

A person standing behind her.

Someone else was there.

Someone helping her.

And Daniel recognized the silhouette.

His face turned pale.

May you like

Because the person behind Eleanor...

was someone they thought was on their side.
