Federal investigators created a special task force.
Every file required careful review.
Not every child had been unlawfully removed.
Not every accusation had been false.
The archive could not simply overturn lives.
It could identify where evidence had been forged, medication used, or judges bribed.
Erin Walsh became a survivor adviser.
Rachel joined the oversight committee but refused a paid leadership role.
Her first priority remained Lily.
I helped families navigate old records.
Some mothers had died waiting to be believed.
Some children were now middle-aged.
One woman discovered her daughter lived thirty miles away.
Another learned her son had grown up believing she abandoned him.
Reunion was not always immediate.
Truth did not restore lost childhoods.
But it ended official lies.
The task force found Carol Jensen, the woman who disappeared after losing custody through Judith’s court strategy.
She had lived under another name in Arizona.
Judith’s investigators threatened her until she fled.
Carol believed returning would place her children in danger.
Her children were adults now.
They chose to meet her privately.
That reunion belonged to them.
Not reporters.
Not courts.
Not us.
Rachel watched the first successful record correction from home.
Lily slept against her chest.
“She almost became one of those files,” Rachel said.
“No.”
I sat beside her.
“She almost became the reason another lie worked.”
Rachel looked toward Thomas’s photograph.
“He knew.”
“He knew enough to prepare.”
“Why didn’t he tell us everything?”
“Maybe he believed information could endanger us.”
“That sounds like another form of deciding for us.”
She was right.
Thomas had protected us.
He had also kept secrets.
Love did not automatically make secrecy wise.
We could honor what he saved without pretending every choice was perfect.
The task force recovered more hidden security footage from Tyler’s former house.
One recording showed Judith speaking to Victor months before Rachel’s pregnancy.
Victor asked whether Tyler could control his wife.
Judith answered.
“If he cannot, we replace him.”
Tyler had believed he would inherit the empire.
Victor never intended to let him keep it.
