Chapter 16 - SIENNA RETURNS
Sienna appeared unexpectedly.
She came to the community center opening.
Natalie recognized her immediately.
“You're Ethan's wife.”
Sienna smiled awkwardly.
“Not anymore.”
Natalie waited.
“I wanted to apologize.”
“You don't owe me that.”
“I do.”
Sienna looked down.
“I thought I was getting a better life.”
Natalie said nothing.
“I thought you were the problem.”
“And now?”
Sienna looked around the building.
“Now I know you weren't.”
Natalie studied her.
“Did Ethan hurt you?”
Sienna shook her head.
“Not the way he hurt you.”
She paused.
“He lied.”
Natalie almost smiled.
“That was his specialty.”
Sienna laughed softly.
Then she became serious.
“I hope you know something.”
“What?”
“He never understood what he lost.”
Natalie looked toward the children.
“I understand.”
Sienna nodded.
“I hope you have a good life.”
“I do.”
Sienna walked away.
Natalie watched her disappear through the crowd.
There was no satisfaction in it.
