Chapter 10 - THE FILE HER FATHER LEFT
Three days later, Gloria called Natalie.
“You need to come to my office.”
“Why?”
“I found something.”
Natalie arrived that afternoon.
Gloria placed an old leather folder on the table.
“This was stored with your father's estate records.”
Natalie opened it.
Inside were letters.
Bank statements.
Corporate documents.
And one handwritten note.
Her father's handwriting.
Natalie's hands trembled.
The note was addressed to her.
If Ethan ever tries to take control of what I leave you, don't fight him with anger.
Fight him with records.
I knew one day you might confuse being loved with being protected.
They are not the same.
Natalie read the last line.
The moment someone tells you that you are worthless without them, check what they have been standing on.
She closed her eyes.
Gloria said softly, “Your father anticipated this.”
Natalie whispered, “He knew.”
“He knew Ethan had ambition.”
“He didn't trust him.”
“He trusted you.”
Inside the folder was a corporate structure Natalie had never known existed.
Her father had created a voting trust.
Natalie was the controlling beneficiary.
Ethan had been using its assets for years.
And now the trust was being audited.
Gloria looked at her.
“This could change everything.”
