Chapter 15 - A NEW FOUNDATION

A year later, Natalie broke ground on a new property.
Not a mansion.
Not a symbol of wealth.
A community center.
Her father had left her more than land.
He had left her an understanding of responsibility.
The center would provide legal assistance, temporary housing referrals, financial education, and support for women rebuilding their lives after divorce.
Claire helped design the children's room.
Mason volunteered in the computer lab.
Natalie stood at the construction site wearing a hard hat.
Gloria joined her.
“You happy?”
Natalie looked around.
“Yes.”
“You ever think about what happened?”
“Every day.”
“And?”
Natalie smiled.
“I don't regret leaving.”
Gloria nodded.
“You didn't leave.”
Natalie looked at her.
“You moved forward.”
Natalie smiled.
“That sounds better.”
Across town, Ethan saw the announcement online.
He stared at the photograph.
Natalie was standing in front of the new building.
Confident.
Calm.
Free.
He closed the laptop.

For once, he didn't call her.
