Reporters surrounded the mansion.

Richard called a press conference.
Emily watched from the hospital with the boys.
Richard stood alone behind a simple podium.
He did not wear the Hawthorne family pin.
“My fiancée attempted to make my sons ill.”
“My family attorney helped her.”
“My private physician falsified their medical records.”
“These crimes were possible because the institutions around my family rewarded silence.”
He paused.
“My father’s company also harmed families through medical programs that were hidden from the public.”
“I inherited the benefits of those decisions.”
“I will not hide behind the claim that I did not personally make them.”
Hawthorne Biomedical shares began falling before he finished speaking.
Richard announced an independent investigation.
He surrendered family control of the company’s internal review.
He committed personal assets to compensate verified victims.
He also spoke about Emily.
“I publicly called an innocent employee a thief.”
“I refused to examine evidence because believing my fiancée was easier than admitting I did not know the people inside my own home.”

Emily turned off the television.
Ethan looked at her.
“Are you still mad at Daddy?”
“Yes.”
“Will you forgive him?”
“That is not a decision I need to make today.”
Liam climbed beside her.
“Will you come home?”
Emily looked at all three boys.
The mansion did not feel like home anymore.

“I will stay until you are safe.”

“I know.”

Richard nodded.
“I will accept whatever you decide.”
Detective Ellis entered before Emily answered.
She carried the hospital laboratory report.
Claire’s preserved samples contained the same sedative family found in the triplets.
There was now physical proof that Claire had been poisoned.
The report also contained an unexpected result.
The samples included a second compound not found in Victoria’s pills.
It had been prescribed under Richard’s name.
