Chapter 16 — The Sister’s Revenge

Alex didn't speak.

He couldn't.

Every person in his life had become a question.

Every memory had another version.

Emma watched him carefully.

"You want to know who?"

Alex's voice was cold.

"Yes."

She walked toward the altar.

"Then you need to understand what happened after Elizabeth died."

She opened an old wooden box.

Inside were documents.

Photos.

Records.

Evidence.

"After the accident, everyone thought my mother died."

Alex looked confused.

"She didn't?"

Emma shook her head.

"No."

The room went silent.

"She survived."

Alex froze.

"What?"

Emma looked at him.

"She survived for three days."

Claire's words suddenly made sense.

The hospital.

The blood.

The diary.

Elizabeth wasn't gone immediately.

She had time.

Time to tell someone the truth.

"Who was with her?"

Emma looked down.

"Claire."

Alex closed his eyes.

"She told me my mother saved her."

"She did."

Emma's expression changed.

"But she also hid something."

Alex looked at her.

"What?"

Emma placed a final document on the table.

A hospital report.

The patient's name had been blacked out.

But the date was clear.

The night Elizabeth died.

Emma whispered:

"Your mother didn't die from the accident."

A pause.

"She was poisoned."

Alex's face changed.

"Poisoned?"

Emma nodded.

"And the person who gave her the poison..."

May you like

She looked toward him.

"Was standing beside her hospital bed."
