Chapter 8 - JULIAN’S MOTHER KNEW

Julian’s mother arrived that afternoon.

Isabella Rossi had spent years telling guests that the Rossi family “transformed” the Marlowe resorts into global luxury.

Elena tolerated it.

Thomas laughed privately.

Now Isabella entered the Marlowe residence without her usual confidence.

“I need to speak with Elena.”

Thomas said.

“You can speak with both of us.”

Isabella did not like that.

She sat.

“I did not know Julian threw you out.”

Elena answered.

“You knew about Camila.”

Silence.

“How long?”

“A few months.”

“Try again.”

Isabella looked away.

“Almost a year.”

Thomas’s expression hardened.

Elena asked.

“Did you know Camila was living in the penthouse when I traveled?”

“No.”

That answer came too quickly.

Elena noticed.

Thomas did too.

Isabella opened her handbag.

“I came because Julian is making mistakes.”

Elena almost laughed.

“He committed fraud.”

“Allegedly.”

“He forged my father’s signature.”

Isabella glanced at Thomas.

“I have not seen proof.”

Thomas smiled.

“You came to my house and decided to challenge my own signature?”

Isabella changed direction.

She wanted the family to settle.

Julian resigns temporarily.

Elena avoids criminal referrals.

Marlowe trust guarantees the refinancing.

Camila disappears.

Marriage addressed privately.

Elena stared at her.

“You think my problem is Camila?”

“Of course she is part of it.”

“No.”

“Camila is a symptom.”

Isabella’s face tightened.

“Marriage requires compromise.”

“So does prison.”

Thomas said.

Elena almost laughed.

Then Isabella made her mistake.

“If Arthur were alive, none of this would be happening.”

Elena went still.

Arthur Marlowe was Elena’s grandfather.

He died four years earlier.

“What does Grandpa have to do with this?”

Isabella realized too late.

Thomas leaned forward.

“Yes, Isabella.”

“What did my father have to do with Julian?”

She tried to retreat.

“Nothing.”

Elena watched her.

“Tell me.”

Finally, Isabella admitted Julian met Arthur privately before the wedding.

That was impossible.

Julian always claimed Arthur disliked him and refused to meet.

“He met Grandpa?”

“Twice.”

“Why?”

Isabella looked toward Thomas.

“Arthur offered him money.”

Elena stopped breathing.

“How much?”

“Twenty million dollars.”

“To do what?”

“Walk away from you.”

Elena looked at her father.

Thomas’s face showed genuine surprise.

He had not known.

Isabella continued.

“Julian refused.”

For one second, Elena felt something like relief.

Then Isabella added.

“But Arthur gave him another offer.”

“What?”

“A chance to earn equity through performance.”

Thomas stood.

“He had no authority to give Marlowe trust equity.”

“Not trust equity.”

Isabella answered.

“A private incentive account.”

Julian had received financial rewards tied to Aurelia growth for years.

Hidden from Elena.

Arthur had been testing him too.

Then Isabella whispered.

“And Julian discovered the land structure during those meetings.”

Elena’s blood went cold.

Julian had known.

May you like

Maybe not everything.

But he knew the Marlowe family owned far more than he admitted.
