Everyone expected Elena to become CEO.
She refused.
That surprised the board.

Julian demanded part of Elena’s trust distributions.

He demanded compensation for “building value” on Marlowe land.
Possible in narrow circumstances.
But complicated by alleged fraud.
The divorce he expected to use as leverage became another place where paperwork fought back.
Then Elena received a package.
No sender.
Inside was her grandmother’s emerald pendant.
Not the original.
That was already secured.
A replica.
Alongside it.
A note.
