Chapter 14 - ISABELLA’S SECOND STORY
Isabella denied it.
Then admitted it.
Then changed the explanation.
She knew about refinancing.
Not forgery.
She knew Elena had to be separated from executive authority.
Not why.
She knew Camila was helping.
Not how.
Every answer was designed to keep Isabella one inch away from responsibility.
Investigators searched her communications.
The truth sat in a deleted message.
Isabella to Julian.
ELENA WILL NEVER SIGN IF THOMAS IS INVOLVED.
Julian replied.
THEN THOMAS DOESN’T KNOW UNTIL CLOSE.
Isabella.
AND CAMILA?
Julian.
SHE HANDLES THE PERSONAL SIDE.
That was enough.
Isabella had helped isolate Elena from her father while Julian pursued the forged financing.
Then another message.
IF ELENA MAKES A SCENE, MAKE HER LOOK JEALOUS.
Elena stared at it.
The public humiliation was strategic.
Camila in the coat.
The pendant.
Julian throwing Elena out.
They expected guests to see a jealous wife losing control over an affair.
If Elena later challenged financing, Julian could frame her as retaliatory.
Instead, Elena stood in the rain and made one call.
The plan collapsed because she did not perform the role they wrote for her.
Isabella requested a deal.
She offered testimony against Julian.
Elena had no control over criminal agreements.
She gave investigators one opinion.
“Do not confuse late honesty with innocence.”
Then came another crisis.
Aurelia’s Caribbean lender threatened acceleration.
News of possible lease fraud made them nervous.
If they pulled financing, two resorts could enter default.
Thomas wanted Marlowe trust to guarantee the loans.
Elena said no.
Not because she wanted Aurelia to fail.
Because another family rescue without reform would repeat the same structure that enabled Julian.
Instead, Samantha Price proposed selling one underperforming resort.
Use proceeds to reduce debt.
Protect the rest.
Julian’s attorneys attacked publicly.
“Thomas Marlowe is dismantling the empire Julian built.”
Elena responded at a staff meeting.
“We are not preserving an empire.”
“We are preserving a company.”
That distinction became Aurelia’s new direction.
One resort sold.
Debt fell.
No employees were terminated without placement offers across the group.
The company survived.
Smaller.
Cleaner.
Less glamorous.
Stronger.
Then Thomas received Arthur’s final sealed file from long-term trust storage.
It was scheduled to open only if a Marlowe beneficiary faced hostile spousal litigation.
Inside was a letter to Elena.
Her grandfather had anticipated more than anyone knew.
The first line read.
