Chapter 15 - Celeste Ward
Celeste Ward had disappeared.
Meridian’s office was empty.
Computers gone.
Files shredded.
Her phone disconnected.
The voicemail came from a prepaid number.
Lena relocated Nora and me immediately.
Julian offered one of his homes.
I refused.
Too obvious.
We stayed in a protected apartment arranged through my attorney.
For two nights, nothing happened.
Then Celeste contacted Rachel.
She wanted immunity.
She had information.
Lena arranged the meeting.
Celeste arrived without makeup.
Without the polished confidence from her business photographs.
She looked terrified.
“Adrian is blaming me.”
Rachel answered.
“You built the system.”
“I followed instructions.”
Lena looked unimpressed.
Celeste opened a laptop.
Inside were backups.
Adrian’s requests.
Vivienne’s payments.
Draft psychiatric narratives.
Strategies for provoking emotional responses.
One folder was titled.
GALA ENDGAME.
I opened it.
The plan was written like an event schedule.
7:30 - Claire arrives.
8:10 - Present statement.
8:20 - Vivienne pressures.
8:30 - Adrian confronts.
Goal.
Visible emotional episode.
Witnesses.
Secure transport if necessary.
My hands went numb.
They had planned the entire evening.
Not the assault.
At least not on paper.
But pressure.
Humiliation.
Fear.
Then institutionalization.
Celeste said.
“Adrian wanted you to scream.”
“Why?”
“Because he needed witnesses.”
She looked ashamed.
“Vivienne said you were too controlled in private.”
“So they made it public.”
“Yes.”
Then Celeste gave us the final file.
Henry.
Adrian had asked Meridian to prepare a capacity challenge against his own father.
If Henry survived long enough to remove Adrian from the company, Adrian planned to declare him mentally impaired from medication and cancer.
Henry discovered it.
That was why he rushed Nora’s trust filing.
Celeste looked at Julian.
“Your father was trying to remove Adrian the morning he died.”
Julian’s eyes filled with tears.
Then Celeste whispered.
“And Vivienne knew the medication could drop Henry’s blood pressure.”
