Chapter 12 - Nora’s Shares
The trust had been filed.
That fact may have saved Nora’s inheritance.
Adrian could not reverse it after Henry died.
So he needed another path.
Me.
If I became legally incapacitated, Adrian could petition for guardianship over Nora.
If he controlled Nora, he could influence her shares.
If he controlled enough shares, Julian lost the ability to block him at Vale Holdings.
The abuse had never begun because of money.
Adrian was controlling before Nora existed.
But money gave his control a new goal.
That made the plan colder.
Rachel filed an emergency motion.
Adrian was barred from accessing Nora’s trust.
His contact with Nora was suspended pending a custody hearing.
The judge cited the gala video, the watch audio, and Sofia’s testimony.
Adrian exploded in court.
“This is my daughter.”
I flinched.
The judge did not.
“She is not property, Mr. Vale.”
Those words sounded like Henry.
Adrian looked toward me.
“This is what you wanted.”
No.
What I wanted was a husband who did not frighten me.
A father who could hold his daughter without using her as leverage.
A family dinner where I did not calculate the nearest exit.
That future had died long before the gala.
Outside the courtroom, reporters shouted questions.
I said nothing.
Vivienne gave a statement.
“Our family is devastated by Claire’s decision to turn private struggles into public warfare.”
That night, I finally responded.
One paragraph.
Violence is not a private struggle when silence is being used to protect the person causing it.
I will not discuss my daughter’s case publicly.
I will provide evidence through the courts.
That was all.
The message spread farther than Vivienne’s.
Maybe because it did not sound like a Vale.
No threat.
No money.
No performance.
Just a boundary.
Then Vale Holdings announced an emergency board vote.
Adrian wanted Julian removed.
If Julian lost his seat, Adrian would control the company even without Nora’s shares.
Julian called me.
“He’s moving faster.”
“What happens if he wins?”
“He gets access to company records.”
“Why does that matter?”
Julian was silent.

“Because Dad stored evidence inside the company archive.”
