Salvatore’s trial became the largest organized-crime proceeding in the city’s history.
The port ledger documented weapons trafficking, bribery, murder, extortion, and the manufactured war with Kodra.
Arben Kodra accepted a plea agreement.
He admitted Salvatore supplied his organization and arranged attacks against both sides.
Gabriel testified against his father.
He described a childhood spent waiting for public acknowledgment.
Salvatore offered affection only after obedience.
“He told me Lucas and Michael stole my place,” Gabriel said.
“The truth was that he never intended to give me one.”
Sofia testified about Antonio’s murder.
She had suspected poison after finding a mark on her husband’s wrist.
Salvatore threatened to kill Lucas if she requested an autopsy.
She remained silent.
The defense asked why the jury should believe a woman who waited twelve years.
“Fear delayed my courage,” Sofia said.
“It did not change what I saw.”
Michael testified for three days.
He described the warehouse ambush.
The false funeral.
His hidden cooperation.
The defense attacked his lies to Hannah.
“You maintained a fake identity for four years.”
“Yes.”
“You lied about your work.”
“Yes.”
“You allowed her to believe you were dead.”
“Yes.”
“So deception comes naturally to you.”
Michael looked toward Hannah.
“It became a habit long before it became natural.”
The attorney asked whether Michael wanted revenge.
“Yes.”
The honest answer surprised everyone.
Michael continued.
“I also want the evidence judged without my motive replacing it.”
Lucas testified next.
He admitted his own crimes before the defense could expose them.
He described ordering assaults and collecting illegal debts.
The prosecutor asked why he should receive leniency.
“I am not asking the jury for leniency.”
“My agreement is with the government.”
“The people I hurt do not owe me gratitude because I eventually testified against someone worse.”
Salvatore watched his nephews calmly.
He believed confession made them weak.
The jury saw something else.
The brothers refused to protect the family name by pretending innocence.
Hannah testified about the locket.
Salvatore’s attorney tried to portray her as a rejected woman seeking revenge.
“Michael lied to you for years,” he said.
“Yes.”
“You were forced into Lucas’s vehicle.”
“Yes.”
“You fired a gun inside your diner.”
“Yes.”
“You now cooperate with the same criminal family that endangered you.”
“No.”
“I cooperate with prosecutors.”
“I tell the truth about Lucas and Michael as well as Salvatore.”
“Do you forgive Michael?”
“That is not evidence.”
The judge instructed the attorney to move on.
Hannah’s answer appeared in news reports anyway.
People wanted romance.
The case offered accountability.
Those were not the same story.
The jury convicted Salvatore on every major count.
He received multiple life sentences.
As marshals approached, he looked toward Lucas and Michael.
“You carry my blood.”
