Chapter 7 - ARTHUR WHITMORE’S FINAL RECORDING

The hard drive contained security recordings from Arthur’s final months.

One video showed him confronting Victor inside the study.

“You stole from sick children,” Arthur said.

Victor remained beside the desk.

“I moved funds into investments.”

“You purchased hotels through shell companies.”

“The foundation will earn the money back.”

“You used my name.”

“I protected the family’s future.”

Arthur placed the new will on the desk.

“You are removed from every trust.”

Victor’s expression changed.

“You cannot give control to Elena.”

“She understands responsibility.”

“She married beneath us.”

Arthur struck the desk.

“She married a good man.”

“You became a thief.”

The recording ended before Victor left.

Another file came from the night Arthur died.

The dining-room camera showed Victor pouring wine.

He opened a small bottle near Arthur’s glass.

Monica entered and blocked the camera for several seconds.

When she moved, Arthur’s drink had changed color slightly.

He collapsed twenty minutes later.

Victor called a private medical team instead of emergency services.

The lead physician was Dr. Malcolm Crane.

Crane later signed the death certificate.

Foundation payments showed he received six million dollars the following month.

The evidence did not yet prove what substance was used.

Arthur’s stored blood samples had been destroyed.

Then investigators found his hairbrush sealed inside the archive.

Toxicology revealed a powerful anticoagulant combined with blood-pressure medication.

The mixture could cause a fatal brain hemorrhage resembling a natural stroke.

Mara watched the laboratory report.

“Victor killed him.”

Elena sat inside a protected hospital suite.

She held Arthur’s final will.

It named her chairwoman of the Whitmore Trust.

Lily would inherit the estate at adulthood.

Victor received nothing beyond a small protected account that could not be used for legal defense.

Ethan looked at Elena.

“You were the reason the sale could not be completed.”

“My signature was required.”

“Victor forged it twice.”

“The bank rejected both attempts.”

“That is why he kept you alive.”

“Yes.”

Victor needed Elena’s fingerprint and legal cooperation.

When intimidation failed, he tried medication.

He brought Dominic Vale, a private psychiatrist, to the hidden chamber.

The doctor prepared reports claiming Elena had voluntarily withdrawn from public life.

The archive contained those payments too.

Elena looked toward Lily.

“He used my daughter to keep me compliant.”

Ethan reached for her hand.

“You do not have to say everything today.”

“Yes.”

“I do.”

“For three years, every day depended on what Victor allowed.”

“I need to choose when I speak now.”

Ethan released her hand.

He had meant comfort.

She had heard permission.

Both of them were learning how captivity changed ordinary gestures.
