Chapter 10 - THE DOCTOR WHO CALLED CHAINS TREATMENT
Dr. Dominic Vale surrendered after his clinic was searched.
He had prepared Elena’s psychiatric reports without conducting independent evaluations.
His notes described her repeated refusal to cooperate as evidence of paranoia.
He documented her attempts to escape as impulsive behavior.
He described the ankle chain as a safety restraint.
During questioning, he insisted Victor had told him Elena was dangerous.
Detective Torres placed photographs of the underground room before him.
“No window.”
“One camera.”
“One cot.”
“An ankle chain.”
“Which part is treatment?”
Dominic removed his glasses.
“She refused medication.”
“What medication?”
“Antipsychotics.”
“Did she have psychosis?”
“Victor described delusions involving financial crimes.”
“The crimes were real.”
Dominic’s silence lasted too long.
His clinic had received twelve million dollars from Whitmore companies.
He had also treated Arthur weeks before his death.
The medical records showed he increased Arthur’s blood-pressure medication.
That change made the fatal anticoagulant combination more effective.
“Did you know Victor planned to poison Arthur?” Torres asked.
“No.”
“Did you alter the prescription?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Victor said Arthur’s pressure remained uncontrolled.”
“Did you examine him?”
“No.”
Again, a professional had used distance as a shield.
He signed.
Billed.
Collected money.
And avoided seeing the person whose life his signature changed.
Dominic agreed to cooperate.
He revealed that Victor planned a second option if the estate sale failed.
Elena would be moved to a private clinic in Vermont.
Lily would be sent abroad with Monica.
Victor would claim Ethan kidnapped them.
False passports had already been prepared.
Police recovered them from a company safe.
One passport used Lily’s real photograph.
Another used Elena’s photograph taken through the hidden-room camera.
Ethan stared at the images.
Victor had planned to erase them twice.
