Chapter 5: The Undeniable Proof

Leaving his mother fuming in the center of the room, Alejandro walked over to Valeria’s leather suitcase. He unzipped it, felt along the silk lining, and found a hidden zipper. Pulling it open, he retrieved a thick manila envelope bearing the crest of a prestigious independent laboratory in the capital.
He opened the envelope and pulled out the medical documents. There, in stark black and white, were the blood work results.
Patient: Valeria Aranda. Findings: High concentrations of concentrated Rue and Pennyroyal toxicity. Dangerous levels capable of inducing severe uterine contractions and fatal hemorrhaging in pregnant females.
Attached to it was a sworn statement by Dr. Julian Silva, detailing the timeline of the poisoning and the physical trauma consistent with defensive wounds and a forceful push, not a simple faint.
Alejandro’s hands shook as he read the words. The paper felt heavy, loaded with the weight of a betrayal so profound he couldn't fully comprehend it. He turned back to Esther, holding the papers up.
