Chapter 10: The Shattered Facade

“Get off me, you ungrateful wretch!” Esther spat, thrashing wildly. “I gave you life! I gave you everything!”
“You gave me a nightmare,” Alejandro said, breathing heavily. He didn’t loosen his grip for a second. “You are no mother of mine. A mother protects her family. You only protect your wallet.”
Minutes felt like hours as they waited.
The silence of the mansion was broken only by Esther’s ragged breathing and the distant wail of sirens echoing up the mountain road.
The Aranda mansion, long a symbol of wealth, prestige, and untouchable power in the valley, was about to be exposed to the world.
Arturo hung up the phone and sank into an armchair, burying his face in his hands. The empire was crumbling, not because of a bad business deal, but because of the rot festering within its own walls.
