Chapter 14: Reclaiming the Mansion
Three weeks later, Valeria was finally discharged. But they did not return to the master bedroom where the nightmare had occurred.
Alejandro had hired a crew to completely renovate the entire east wing of the mansion.
The dark, heavy antique furniture favored by Esther was thrown out, replaced by light, airy, modern decor. The oppressive atmosphere of the house had been physically scrubbed away.
When he carried Valeria over the threshold, the house felt entirely different. It didn’t feel like Esther’s fortress anymore; it felt like their home.
“It looks beautiful,” Valeria breathed, leaning her head against his chest as he carried her to the new, sunlit bedroom overlooking the valley.
“It’s a fresh start,” Alejandro promised, setting her down gently on the plush mattress. “I’ve tripled the security. Dr. Silva is on retainer.
And I am taking a six-month leave of absence from the company. I am not leaving your side until our baby is born.”
