Chapter 3 – A Billionaire's Promise

The operating room doors closed.

Marcus stared at the red light above them.

He had built one of the country's largest investment firms.

Negotiated impossible mergers.

Survived economic crashes.

None of it prepared him for waiting outside surgery.

Every minute felt heavier than the last.

Across the corridor, Isabella sat wrapped in a blanket provided by hospital staff.

She had already spoken with her attorney.

She expected confusion.

Perhaps even sympathy.

What she did not expect...

Was Detective Claire Donovan walking directly toward her.

"Ms. Rossi."

"I'll need a statement."

Isabella nodded confidently.

"Of course."

"Mrs. Thorne became emotional."

"I tried to leave."

"She attacked me."

Claire simply listened.

No interruption.

No reaction.

When Isabella finished, Claire closed her notebook.

"Interesting."

"What do you mean?"

Claire looked toward the surveillance office.

"Because the security footage tells a very different story."

Isabella's heartbeat skipped.

"What footage?"

Claire smiled politely.

"The hospital records everything."

For the first time that evening...

Fear entered Isabella's eyes.

At that exact moment David Lawson reached Marcus.

Marcus stood immediately.

"How is she?"

David answered honestly.

"They're doing everything they can."

Marcus looked exhausted.

Then David handed him a flash drive.

Marcus frowned.

"What's this?"

"The truth."

Marcus plugged it into his phone.

The video began.

He watched every second.

The shove.

The second shove.

The kick.

Khloe collapsing.

Isabella rehearsing tears before he entered.

When it ended...

Marcus remained silent.

Dangerously silent.

David had seen that expression only once before—

The day Marcus dismantled a corporation that had defrauded thousands of families.

Marcus slipped the flash drive into his pocket.

"They touched my family."

His voice was barely above a whisper.

"But they made one fatal mistake."

David looked at him.

Marcus's eyes had become ice.

"They thought I would protect my reputation."

A long pause followed.

Instead...

May you like

"I'm going to protect my wife."

And before sunrise, every person who helped Isabella hide behind lies would learn exactly what that promise meant.
