Chapter 10 – The Missing Will

Marcus refused to leave the hospital.
His assistants brought contracts.
Board members requested emergency meetings.
Investors flooded his phone with questions after the news broke.
He ignored them all.
The only place he wanted to be was beside Khloe's hospital bed.
She was awake now, though every movement still brought pain.
Marcus held her hand.
"You should be resting."
Khloe managed a tired smile.
"I can rest after you tell me why Isabella hated me enough to do this."
Marcus hesitated.
"I don't know."
"You do."
She looked into his eyes.
"You just haven't admitted it yet."
Before Marcus could answer, David entered carrying an old leather folder.
"I think I found something."
Marcus frowned.
"What is it?"
"My sister's estate records."
Khloe looked confused.
"My mother's?"
David nodded.
"I started reviewing family documents after Detective Donovan mentioned Richard Hawthorne."
He laid several papers across the table.
One document immediately caught Marcus's attention.
The signature.
It belonged to Khloe's late grandfather, William Lawson.
The date was twenty-three years old.
David spoke quietly.
"Your grandfather created two copies of his final will."
"We only knew about one."
Marcus scanned the pages.
His expression slowly changed.
"This says..."
David finished the sentence.
"Khloe inherited controlling ownership of Lawson Biotech."
Khloe stared at him.
"That's impossible."
"I never inherited a company."
David nodded grimly.
"Because someone made the second will disappear."
Silence filled the room.
Marcus looked up.
"Who benefited?"
David answered without hesitation.
"Richard Hawthorne."
Hours later Detective Claire Donovan received the documents.
She compared signatures.
Dates.
Corporate records.
Then she leaned back.
"So Richard didn't just want Marcus' marriage destroyed."
David nodded.
"He wanted the company."
Claire's eyes narrowed.
"And Khloe was standing in the way."

For the first time...
