Chapter 15 – Justice

Rain hammered the lighthouse as Richard Hawthorne stepped inside.

He was no longer the polished businessman the public admired.

His suit was soaked.

His expression burned with desperation.

"Give me the box."

Marcus stood between Richard and the evidence.

"No."

Richard laughed bitterly.

"You have no idea how many people will fall if those papers leave this building."

Claire stepped forward, displaying her badge.

"We know exactly how many."

Federal agents entered behind her.

"Richard Hawthorne, you are under arrest for conspiracy, fraud, obstruction of justice, witness intimidation, attempted theft of corporate assets, and your suspected involvement in multiple violent crimes."

Richard slowly looked around the room.

There was nowhere left to run.

He reached into his jacket.

Every agent raised a weapon.

"Don't move!"

Instead, Richard removed a faded photograph.

It showed him standing beside William Lawson forty years earlier.

"We built everything together."

David answered quietly.

"No."

"My brother-in-law built it."

"You tried to steal it."

Richard dropped the photograph.

For the first time in decades, he surrendered without another word.

Six months later...

The courtroom overflowed with reporters.

The surveillance footage from the hospital played on the largest screen.

Jurors watched Isabella shove Khloe.

They watched the kick.

They watched her rehearse tears before Marcus entered.

After only four hours of deliberation, the verdicts were unanimous.

Guilty.

Richard Hawthorne was convicted on multiple federal charges and sentenced to decades in prison.

Isabella Rossi was convicted of aggravated assault and other related offenses, receiving a lengthy prison sentence.

Lawson Biotech was legally restored to Khloe's ownership.

Marcus declined every interview.

He told reporters only one sentence.

"My family deserves peace more than publicity."

One year later...

Morning sunlight filled the garden behind the restored Lawson estate.

Khloe sat beneath an old oak tree, holding the little boy whose life had nearly been stolen before it began.

He laughed as Marcus lifted him into the air.

David watched from the porch, smiling.

Khloe looked toward the horizon.

"My grandfather believed the truth would find its way home."

Marcus slipped his hand into hers.

"It did."

Together they watched their son take his first unsteady steps across the grass.

The future that others had tried to destroy had become stronger than anyone imagined.

And for the first time in a very long while, the Thorne family no longer feared what tomorrow might bring.

They welcomed it.
