Chapter 13 – The Truth William Lawson Buried

The drive contained only one folder.
Its name was simple.
IF YOU ARE READING THIS, I HAVE FAILED.
Marcus exchanged a glance with David before plugging it into his laptop.
A single video file appeared.
The timestamp was nearly twenty-three years old.
William Lawson filled the screen.
He looked older than Khloe remembered, but his eyes were as determined as ever.
"If this recording has reached my granddaughter," he began, "then Richard Hawthorne has done exactly what I feared."
David lowered his head.
William continued.
"Richard entered my company as a partner. I believed he shared my vision of creating affordable medical technology."
A bitter smile crossed his face.
"I was wrong."
"He wanted power."
"He wanted control."
"And when I refused to sell him the company, he threatened my family."
Marcus listened without blinking.
"I transferred my controlling shares to Khloe because she was the only heir Richard could never legally remove from the line of succession."
William paused.
"If I die unexpectedly, do not believe it was natural."
The room fell silent.
He reached for a thick folder beside him.
"Every original contract, every share certificate, every signed agreement is hidden where Richard will never find them."
He looked directly into the camera.
"David knows the place."
David's eyes widened.
"No..."
He whispered.
"The lighthouse."
Marcus frowned.
"What lighthouse?"
"The old Lawson family lighthouse on the Maine coast."
William had taken David there countless times as a child.
It had been abandoned for years.
William smiled one final time.
"Protect Khloe."
The screen faded to black.

Marcus slowly closed the laptop.
"We're going to Maine."
