Chapter 9 — The Birth of a New Life

The storm arrived the night Mara gave birth.

Rain covered the city.

Thunder shook the hospital windows.

But inside the delivery room, everything was quiet.

Mara held onto the doctor’s hand as the final moments arrived.

Then—

A cry.

A beautiful, powerful cry.

The first twin was born.

A few minutes later, the second followed.

Two tiny lives.

Two reminders that something good could still come from something terrible.

Mara cried.

Not because she was broken.

Because she was finally free.

Her mother stood beside her, smiling through tears.

“They’re perfect.”

Mara looked down at them.

“Yes.”

She touched their tiny fingers.

“They are.”

Outside the hospital, cameras waited.

Reporters wanted statements.

Investors wanted updates.

The world wanted to know what happened next.

But Mara ignored all of it.

For the first time in years, she wasn’t thinking about Adrian.

She wasn’t thinking about revenge.

She was thinking about tomorrow.

A nurse entered quietly.

“Mrs. Morrison?”

Mara looked up.

“Yes?”

“There’s a visitor.”

Her expression changed.

“Who?”

The nurse hesitated.

“Adrian Morrison.”

Mara looked at her children.

Then toward the door.

The old Mara might have been afraid.

The new Mara simply said:

“Let him enter.”

Because this time…

May you like

She was not the woman trapped in his world.

He was standing at the edge of hers.
