Chapter 6 — The Secret Adrian Never Found

Three days later, Mara sat in a private hospital room.

The doctors had insisted she rest.

The stress had affected her pregnancy.

But the twins were strong.

That was the only thing that mattered.

Her mother sat beside her, holding her hand.

“I wish you told me sooner.”

Mara stared out the window.

“I thought I could fix him.”

Her mother sighed.

“That’s what good people do. They believe broken things can be repaired.”

Mara smiled sadly.

“But some things aren’t broken.”

She looked down.

“They’re designed to hurt you.”

A knock came at the door.

Her attorney entered carrying a small box.

“Mara.”

She looked up.

“What is it?”

He placed the box on the table.

“This was found during the financial investigation.”

Inside was an old envelope.

Her name was written on it.

But the handwriting wasn’t Adrian’s.

Mara opened it carefully.

Inside was a document from years ago.

A document proving something she never knew.

Adrian hadn’t just stolen her work.

He had planned to erase her completely.

The final page contained one sentence:

Once Mara is removed, all intellectual ownership transfers to Adrian Morrison.

Her hands tightened around the paper.

He hadn’t simply betrayed her.

He had built his entire future around destroying hers.

Her attorney watched her carefully.

“What will you do?”

Mara folded the document.

For the first time, a small smile appeared.

“Now?”

May you like

She looked toward the city outside.

“Now I make sure everyone knows who Adrian Morrison really is.”
