Veronica hired a public-relations firm before sunset.
News channels received photographs of Teresa carrying trays, washing dishes, and entering Manuel’s bedroom with medicine.
The images were presented as proof of unusual access.
One commentator asked whether a domestic worker had manipulated a lonely old man.
Another described Teresa as an ambitious employee who hid her family connection.
No one mentioned that Teresa herself had not known.
Reporters waited outside the mansion.
They shouted questions whenever Lucy crossed the foyer.
Teresa’s former landlord received calls demanding copies of her lease and payment history.
Lucy’s employer placed her on temporary leave because of the media attention.
Teresa considered surrendering the trust.
“I never wanted this.”
Lucy closed the laptop.
“That is why Uncle Manuel trusted you.”
“I am costing you your career.”
“My career will survive.”
“Your grandmother’s letters did not.”
Teresa looked toward Isabel’s photograph.
Lucy continued.
“If you walk away because they make the truth painful, they will learn that cruelty still works.”
Arthur arranged a controlled interview.
Teresa refused a ballroom or press conference.
She invited three journalists into the kitchen.
She placed the DNA report, birth certificate, trust documents, and Isabel’s letters on the table.
“I did not discover a secret fortune,” she said.
“I discovered that my mother had been erased.”
A reporter asked why Teresa had tolerated Veronica’s treatment for fifteen years.
“I needed my paycheck.”
“People call quiet workers loyal because it sounds better than admitting those workers cannot afford to answer back.”
Another reporter asked whether Teresa believed she deserved fifty million dollars.
“No.”
“I believe documents should be honored.”
“I believe stolen rights should be restored.”
“And I believe no family should empty employee medical funds while celebrating under a chandelier.”
The interview changed the story.
Former employees began contacting Arthur.
A warehouse manager described denied injury claims.
A driver produced receipts for Adrian’s private trips.
