Chapter 11 - THE MAN WHO WANTED THE LAND

Adrian Vega disappeared after Veronica’s arrest.

His passport was flagged.

His private jet remained inside its hangar.

Police believed he was hiding nearby.

The audit revealed why.

Adrian had already secured loans against the warehouses Veronica intended to sell him.

If the transfer failed, he would owe nearly twenty million dollars.

He needed the original property deeds.

The deeds were kept inside the Cardenas archive beneath the mansion.

Only Manuel’s biometric key and the chairperson’s code could open the vault.

Manuel’s key had been transferred to Teresa through the trust.

One night, the mansion’s electricity failed.

Emergency lights illuminated the hallways.

Lucy woke Teresa.

“Someone disabled the cameras.”

A crash came from the lower floor.

Teresa called Detective Cruz.

Then she and Lucy moved toward the old library.

The archive door stood open.

Adrian was inside.

He had forced Arthur to accompany him at gunpoint.

Arthur’s forehead was bleeding.

Adrian held a metal case containing the deeds.

“Give me the trust key,” he said.

Teresa stopped.

“You already opened the vault.”

“I opened the first compartment.”

“The ownership transfer requires your authorization.”

“Then it is not happening.”

Adrian pointed the gun toward Arthur.

“You think being rich makes you brave?”

Teresa looked at him.

“I am not brave because of the trust.”

“I worked in this house while people like you treated me as furniture.”

“I learned how dangerous invisible people can become when they finally understand the room.”

Lucy moved silently behind the shelving.

She activated the old kitchen service bell.

The bell rang throughout the mansion.

Every security officer knew the emergency code Teresa had created after taking control.

Adrian turned toward the sound.

Arthur struck his wrist.

The gun fired into the ceiling.

Lucy kicked the metal case away.

Security entered from both sides.

Adrian attempted to escape through the service tunnel.

Teresa blocked the door with a heavy archive cart.

He stared at her.

“You were supposed to take the money and disappear.”

Teresa looked at him calmly.

May you like

“That was your first mistake.”

“You assumed I had nowhere else to stand.”
