Chapter 10 – The Steps Where Everything Changed

One year later, spring sunshine bathed the marble steps of the Montgomery County Courthouse.

The bloodstains had long since disappeared.

People hurried past without knowing what had happened there a year earlier.

Khloe climbed the same staircase slowly, Grace balanced comfortably on her hip.

The little girl laughed as pigeons fluttered across the plaza.

Harrison met them at the top.

"You made it."

"I said I would."

He smiled at his niece.

Grace reached for his tie, giggling.

He laughed, pretending to lose the battle.

"You've already learned how to win arguments."

Khloe shook her head.

"She gets that from her uncle."

They stood quietly for a moment, looking down the staircase where everything had nearly ended.

"It doesn't hurt anymore," Khloe said.

Harrison glanced at her.

"The memories?"

She nodded.

"I used to see betrayal."

She looked at Grace.

"Now I see the place where my second life began."

Months earlier, the civil court had awarded Khloe full ownership of the remaining Harrington assets that had been legally recovered. Instead of keeping the wealth for herself, she established the Grace Foundation, providing legal assistance and emergency housing for pregnant women escaping domestic abuse and financial coercion.

Every woman who walked through its doors received something Khloe had once desperately needed:

Someone who believed her.

Someone willing to fight.

As the afternoon sun settled over the courthouse, Grace reached up and touched her mother's cheek.

Khloe smiled.

"What is it, sweetheart?"

The little girl laughed again.

It was a simple sound.

But to Khloe, it was stronger than every lie, every betrayal, and every courtroom victory.

Because revenge had never truly healed her.

Love had.

She took one last look at the courthouse steps, then turned away with Harrison beside her and Grace safe in her arms.

She never looked back.

The End.
