Chapter 9 – The Daughter Nobody Knew About

The photograph sat on the table between them.
Nobody touched it.
Nobody spoke.
Because sometimes the truth was so unbelievable that the human mind needed time to accept it.
Rebecca.
Standing in a hospital room.
Holding a newborn baby.
A baby connected to the Morgan family.
Daniel looked at Isabella.
"What is this?"
Isabella took a slow breath.
"The first time I saw that picture, I thought it was impossible."
"When?"
"Two years before the crash."
Daniel's expression changed.
"You knew?"
"I suspected."
"Then why didn't you tell me?"
Isabella looked down.
"Because I didn't have proof."
Michael Turner placed another folder beside the photograph.
"I do."
Everyone turned.
He opened the folder.
Inside were old hospital records.
Adoption papers.
Financial documents.
And a birth certificate.
Laura picked up the documents carefully.
"Rebecca's full name..."
She stopped.
Her eyes widened.
"Rebecca Claire Morgan."
Daniel froze.
"That's impossible."
"My father's only child was me."
Isabella looked at him.
"Your father lied."
The documents revealed a secret buried for nearly thirty years.
Before Daniel was born, his father, Richard Morgan, had a relationship with a young woman named Claire.
When she became pregnant, Richard refused to acknowledge the child.
Instead, he paid money to keep the matter hidden.
Claire raised Rebecca alone.
And Rebecca grew up believing one thing:
The Morgan family stole her life.
Her inheritance.
Her future.
Her identity.
Michael explained quietly,
"Rebecca discovered the truth when she was twenty-three."
"After that, she changed her name and slowly moved closer to this family."
Daniel stared at the documents.
"She didn't want my company."
"No," Isabella replied.
"She wanted what she believed was hers."
At the police station, Rebecca sat across from Detective Laura Bennett.
Laura placed the photograph on the table.
"How long did you plan this?"
Rebecca smiled faintly.
"Plan what?"
"Destroying Daniel."
Rebecca leaned back.
"I didn't destroy anything."
"I simply took back what belonged to me."
Laura frowned.
"By attacking children?"
Rebecca's smile disappeared.
"You don't understand."
"I spent my entire life watching people celebrate the Morgan name."
"While I lived like I didn't exist."
Laura looked at her coldly.
"So you decided innocent people should suffer?"
Rebecca looked away.
For a moment...
she almost looked human.
Almost.
Back at the house, Daniel found Mateo sitting alone in the garden.
The same place where he discovered the mysterious envelope.
Daniel sat beside him.
"I know today was confusing."
Mateo didn't look up.
"Am I really your son?"
Daniel answered immediately.
"Yes."
Mateo finally looked at him.
"How do you know?"
Daniel smiled sadly.
"Because I don't need a paper to tell me."
"You were there when Sofia was born."
"You held my hand when your mother was sick."
"You called me Dad before you even knew what the word meant."
He placed a hand on Mateo's shoulder.
"Blood makes people related."
"But love makes people family."
Mateo's eyes filled with tears.
That night, Isabella stood alone in the hallway.
She looked at old family pictures.
Three years missing.
Three years stolen.
Daniel approached quietly.
"You should have told me."
"I know."
"I could have protected you."
"I know."
His voice softened.
"But you didn't trust me."
Isabella turned away.
"I was wrong."
A long silence passed.
Then Daniel said:
"I was angry."
"I still am."
"But I also spent three years believing I lost you."
He looked at her.
"I don't know how to feel."
Isabella nodded.
"You don't have to forgive me today."
"But I want the chance to earn my place back."
The next morning, Laura received a shocking update.
Rebecca's lawyer had filed an emergency motion.
Claiming Daniel had illegally obtained evidence.
Claiming Rebecca was the victim.
And attaching one final document.
A document that made Laura's face turn pale.
She immediately drove to Daniel's house.
"We have another problem."
Daniel looked worried.
"What now?"
Laura placed the document on the table.
"This was filed thirty minutes ago."
Daniel read the first line.
Then his face changed.
Because the document wasn't about Rebecca.
It was about Isabella.
Petition to terminate Isabella Morgan's parental rights.
Signed...
before Isabella was even declared dead.
Daniel looked up.
"How is this possible?"
Laura's voice was quiet.
"Because someone planned this years ago."
She paused.
"And whoever helped Rebecca..."
"...has been hiding in your family for a very long time."
At that moment...
the front door opened.
Everyone turned.
A familiar voice came from the entrance.
"You're finally asking the right questions."
A man stepped inside.
Daniel froze.
Because he recognized him.
His own uncle.
The man who had attended Isabella's funeral.
The man who had comforted him while he cried.
The man who had said:
"Some wounds never heal."
But now...
he was smiling.
May you like
And in his hand...
was the missing original file from Isabella's case.
