Chapter 13 – The Man Who Knew Everything

Daniel stared at Michael Turner.

For several seconds, the room felt frozen.

The man who had appeared when they needed help.

The man who claimed to have protected Isabella.

The man who brought the evidence against Rebecca.

Now stood silently as the evidence pointed toward him.

"Tell me I'm wrong."

Daniel's voice was calm.

Too calm.

Michael looked at the paper in Daniel's hand.

Then he slowly lowered his eyes.

"I wish you were."

Isabella stepped back.

"No."

Her voice trembled.

"Michael..."

"How could you?"

Laura immediately reached for her phone.

"Nobody moves."

Michael looked at her.

"You still don't understand."

"No," Laura replied.

"We understand enough."

She motioned toward the evidence.

"Your handwriting appears on documents connected to Richard Morgan."

"You were involved."

Michael closed his eyes.

"Yes."

The admission shocked everyone.

Even Rebecca.

Daniel felt betrayed.

"You told me you saved Isabella."

"I did."

"You told me you protected my family."

"I did."

"Then why?"

Michael looked toward Isabella.

"Because I was trying to stop something bigger."

Daniel laughed bitterly.

"Everyone says that."

"Everyone who destroys a family says they had a reason."

Michael accepted the words.

Because he knew Daniel was right.

Thirty years earlier...

Michael Turner wasn't a private investigator.

He was Richard Morgan's closest financial advisor.

He helped build the Morgan empire.

He knew every secret.

Every hidden account.

Every agreement made in the shadows.

When Claire became pregnant, Michael was the person Richard sent to solve the problem.

But Michael couldn't do it.

He saw Rebecca as an innocent child.

A child punished for the mistakes of adults.

So he secretly helped Claire disappear.

He created a new identity.

Protected her.

But he made one mistake.

He thought keeping secrets would prevent pain.

Instead...

the secrets grew.

"I watched Rebecca grow up believing the world hated her," Michael said.

"She became angry."

"She became obsessed."

"But I never believed she would hurt children."

Daniel looked at him.

"She did."

Michael lowered his head.

"I know."

Rebecca was brought into the room under police supervision.

Everyone turned toward her.

She looked at Michael.

"You knew?"

Michael looked at her.

"Yes."

"You knew who my father was."

"Yes."

"You knew my mother was alive."

"Yes."

Rebecca laughed.

A broken laugh.

"And you let me hate them."

Michael had no answer.

Because she was right.

Then Rebecca said something unexpected.

"You know what the worst part is?"

Everyone looked at her.

"I spent my entire life trying to become a Morgan."

She looked at Daniel.

"I wanted their name."

"Their money."

"Their respect."

"But I never realized..."

She looked at Michael.

"...that someone was lying to me before I even knew how to lie."

For the first time...

Daniel saw something different in Rebecca.

Not innocence.

Not forgiveness.

Just a person finally seeing the damage she had caused.

Then Laura received a message.

She read it quickly.

Her expression changed.

"What?"

Daniel asked.

She looked at everyone.

"The person who leaked the documents."

"We found the source."

Michael frowned.

"Who?"

Laura turned the screen around.

The name appeared.

Everyone froze.

Because it wasn't Rebecca.

It wasn't Victor.

It wasn't Michael.

It was:

Daniel Morgan.

Daniel stared.

"No."

"I didn't send anything."

Laura nodded.

"I believe you."

"Which means someone accessed your identity."

Isabella looked worried.

"Someone is trying to make Daniel look guilty."

Michael stepped closer to the screen.

Then he noticed something.

A pattern.

The same pattern used years ago.

His face changed.

"No..."

Daniel looked at him.

"What?"

Michael whispered:

"The person behind this..."

"...is the one person Richard trusted more than anyone."

Everyone waited.

Michael slowly said:

"Your father's lawyer."

At that moment, across the city...

A man in a luxury office watched the news.

He was older.

Elegant.

Calm.

He poured himself a glass of whiskey while watching Daniel Morgan's downfall unfold.

On his desk sat a folder.

The same folder Richard Morgan had hidden thirty years ago.

The man opened it.

Inside was the final page.

A signature.

A secret agreement.

And a name.

He smiled.

"After all these years..."

"The Morgan empire will finally belong to me."

The camera on the desk showed his reflection.

Thomas Reed.

The family lawyer.

The man who had protected Morgan secrets for three decades.

And the man who knew the final truth.

May you like

Because he wasn't trying to destroy the Morgan family.

He was trying to inherit it.
