Chapter 10 – The Uncle Who Held the Secret

Nobody moved.

The man standing in the doorway looked exactly the same as Daniel remembered.

Gray hair.

Expensive suit.

Calm expression.

The same man who had stood beside Daniel at Isabella's funeral.

The same man who had hugged him and whispered:

"I'm sorry you lost the love of your life."

Daniel's face hardened.

"Uncle Victor."

Victor Morgan slowly stepped inside.

"I suppose we have reached the part where everyone finally stops pretending."

Laura immediately stepped forward.

"Don't move."

Victor looked at her and smiled.

"Detective, if I wanted to run, I would have done it years ago."

Daniel stared at the folder in Victor's hand.

"Where did you get that?"

Victor glanced down.

"The original file from Isabella's case."

Everyone became silent.

"You had this the entire time?"

Daniel's voice shook.

"Why?"

Victor placed the folder on the table.

"Because your father taught me something."

Daniel frowned.

"What?"

"Power belongs to the person who controls the truth."

Laura carefully opened the folder.

Inside were documents that had never appeared in the official investigation.

Original accident reports.

Private medical records.

And one handwritten statement from Richard Morgan.

Daniel's father.

Laura read silently.

Then her expression changed.

"What is it?"

Daniel asked.

She looked at him.

"Your father knew about Rebecca."

Daniel froze.

"No."

"He knew she was his daughter."

The room became completely still.

Victor sighed.

"Richard was afraid."

"Afraid of what?"

"Of losing everything."

Victor looked at the family photos on the wall.

"The Morgan name."

"The company."

"The reputation."

"He believed a scandal would destroy the family."

Daniel clenched his fists.

"So he abandoned her?"

Victor nodded.

"And I helped him hide it."

Rebecca sat in the interrogation room watching through the security camera.

When she saw Victor arrive at Daniel's house, her expression changed.

For the first time...

she looked afraid.

She grabbed the table.

"No."

The officer watching her noticed.

"Something wrong?"

Rebecca said nothing.

Because she understood.

Victor wasn't there to save her.

He was there to protect himself.

Inside the Morgan house, Daniel looked at his uncle with disgust.

"You knew everything."

"About Rebecca."

"About Isabella."

"About the accident."

Victor remained silent.

"Answer me!"

Finally, Victor spoke.

"I knew Rebecca hated this family."

"But I never thought she would go this far."

Daniel laughed bitterly.

"You watched."

"You knew she was dangerous."

"And you did nothing."

Victor looked down.

"I thought I could control her."

Isabella stepped forward.

"You used her pain."

Victor looked at her.

"You were always too trusting, Isabella."

"And you were always too proud."

Mateo had been standing quietly at the stairs.

Listening.

Learning.

Then he spoke.

"You knew my mom was alive."

Everyone turned.

Victor's face changed slightly.

Mateo continued.

"You knew."

"Didn't you?"

The silence answered.

Daniel looked at Victor.

"How?"

Mateo's voice trembled.

"The night before the attack..."

"I saw him talking to Rebecca."

Victor's eyes widened.

"You little—"

He stopped himself.

But it was too late.

Daniel saw everything.

"You worked with her."

Victor shook his head.

"No."

"I was trying to stop her."

"Too late."

Laura immediately signaled the officers outside.

"Victor Morgan, you are being detained for questioning."

Victor didn't resist.

Instead, he looked at Daniel.

"You think this is the end?"

Daniel said nothing.

Victor smiled.

"Rebecca was never the mastermind."

Everyone froze.

"What did you say?"

Victor looked toward the window.

"The person who started this..."

"...was someone neither of you suspected."

Isabella stepped closer.

"Who?"

Victor looked directly at Daniel.

"Your father."

That night, Daniel sat alone in his office.

His entire life felt like it had been built on secrets.

First Rebecca.

Then Victor.

Now his own father.

The family legacy he had spent years protecting suddenly felt like a prison.

A knock came at the door.

Mateo entered.

"Can I come in?"

Daniel nodded.

The boy sat across from him.

"Are you okay?"

Daniel smiled sadly.

"That's supposed to be my question."

Mateo looked at the family photo on the desk.

"Maybe families aren't perfect."

Daniel looked at him.

"But they can choose what happens next."

Those words stayed with Daniel.

Because Mateo was right.

The past couldn't be changed.

But the future could.

The next morning, Laura received a call from the prosecutor.

They had found a hidden account.

A secret account opened thirty years earlier.

The owner shocked everyone.

Because the money inside came from Richard Morgan.

And the account was created for only one purpose.

To pay someone to disappear.

The name on the payment records:

Isabella Morgan.

Daniel stared at the document.

"No..."

Isabella's face turned pale.

"That means..."

Laura nodded slowly.

"Your father's secrets go deeper than we thought."

She looked at the final page.

"The person who was paid to make Isabella disappear..."

She paused.

"...was never Rebecca."

Everyone held their breath.

"Who was it?" Daniel whispered.

Laura looked up.

May you like

"The person who signed the payment receipt..."

"...was Daniel Morgan."
