Chapter 10 - Ethan’s Hotel Room

Savannah entered Ethan’s hotel suite wearing a wire.
This time, Claire agreed.
Not because she trusted Savannah completely.
Because federal financial investigators had joined the corporate-fraud case.
The room was monitored.
Ethan poured two drinks.
“You look terrible.”
Savannah sat.
“Adrian knows.”
“I know.”
“Claire knows.”
“I know.”
Savannah stared.
“You seem calm.”
Ethan smiled.
“Because Adrian was never the objective.”
“What was?”
“Control.”
“Of Vale?”
“Of the merger.”
Savannah frowned.
“What merger?”
Ethan explained.
Helen planned to combine Vale’s cybersecurity holdings with several Whitmore technology assets after taking control.
The resulting company would dominate defense authentication markets.
Claire’s trust owned valuable patents.
Vale owned government relationships.
Helen had the technology.
Ethan had the debt.
Adrian was merely the weak point used to destabilize the board.
Savannah asked.
“And Claire?”
Ethan’s voice changed.
“She was supposed to remain what Adrian believed she was.”
“Dependent.”
“If she stayed quiet, Helen would offer her a settlement.”
“And if she didn’t?”
Ethan shrugged.
“Then custody pressure.”
Claire listening from another room went cold.
Savannah continued.
“Noah?”
“Children make excellent leverage.”
That sentence ended any ambiguity.
Ethan was not protecting anyone.
He had helped Adrian plan custody strategy because it weakened Claire.
Savannah asked.
“Did you tell Adrian to date me?”
“No.”
“He found you all by himself.”
A pause.
“Useful coincidence.”
Savannah’s face tightened.
“So I was a tool.”
Ethan smiled.
“Everyone is.”
Then he reached for her second phone.
Savannah pulled back.
His expression changed.
“Give me that.”
“No.”
Ethan stood.
Federal agents entered before he could move farther.
He froze.
Then saw the wire.
He looked at Savannah.
“You stupid—”
An agent restrained him.
Savannah stepped back.
For the first time, she looked relieved.
Ethan was arrested for fraud, conspiracy, corporate theft, and financial manipulation.
His devices were seized.
Within hours, investigators found communications with Helen.
And one file.
CLAIRE EXIT OPTIONS.
Inside were strategies.
Settlement.
Custody challenge.
Reputation attack.
Asset freeze.
And one final line.
If necessary, Savannah pregnancy narrative can destabilize marriage before transfer date.
Claire read it twice.
May you like
Savannah’s affair had not started the scheme.
But someone had been ready to weaponize it.
